Directions:

  • First things first – grab your first sheet of cardstock {the color you want for the fish} along with a pencil or marker
  • Have your child pick a hand and lay it out flat on the paper.
  • Trace around your child’s hand with the utensil.
  • Lift up their hand and grab the scissors.
  • Trim out the traced design from the paper.
  • Discard excess paper.
  • Now grab your second sheet of cardstock paper, the glue stick and the wiggle eye.
  • Glue the wiggle eye in place on the handprint cutout.
  • Go ahead and cut out some heart shaped fish lips from the cardstock & glue it in place on the handprint as well.
  • Add any other embellishments you see fit on the handprint fish cutout.
  • Next up -grab ONE sandwich baggie per craft and your blue colored crinkle paper.
  • Open up the baggie.
  • Stuff the sandwich baggie with the blue shredded paper. Just a handful inside the bag, until it’s nice and full.
  • Grab the handprint cutout.
  • Slip it into the bag, making sure it’s facing outward/towards you. This way you can see him in the bag.
  • If desired, add more crinkle paper to fill up the bag.
  • To finish off the crinkle paper pet fish bowl craft, seal off the baggie and display it proudly for ALL to see!

  • Make it your own – instead of using crinkle paper, think of other ways you can “fill” up your baggie. Maybe even make it a scavenger hunt in your home. Encourage kids to grab large blue colored pom poms, crumbled up blue tissue paper, fabric scraps – let their creative juices soar as they make their craft come to life in a different way!
  • Don’t forget – you can also go up a size in the plastic baggie and include OTHER “under the sea” items in the bag as well. You can toss in some plastic fish, starfish cutouts etc. Maybe even double up your paper handprint fish cutouts if you like!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use. Following these guidelines will ensure that crafts remain fun, creative, and, most importantly, safe for everyone involved!
