Sidewalk Chalk Snowy Day Craft Idea For Kids

Today’s latest tutorial is a winter kid craft idea that can be made entirely from ONE trip to Dollar Tree. From the craft foam snowflake shape to the white chalk I used to set the scene – this winter themed art project can cost you less than $2 if you plan it just right!

I have to admit, it’s “a little bit” inspired by the new Disney Frozen movie. So if you have a fan {or two}} in your home that are gearing up to see the new movie in theaters this weekend, may I suggest you make this chalk art snowy day craft before hand?! I’m sure it will set the scene and get your little one even more excited for the experience! Maybe even adults can recreate our craft idea and feel like a kid again, as well!

So what are we waiting for?! All the details can be found below for this chalk art snowy day scene. Just like my past chalk art tutorials, this one is really easy to start within a matter of minutes and completes just as fast. It’s my promise to you! Plus no two snowflake scenes will be alike. I think that’s the best part of all!

Now on that note, don’t forget to show off those one-of-a-kind snowflake creations with us! We love seeing those pictures come through our feed {especially the ones where kids are working on the craft!} so tag us on our Facebook page or use #gluedtomycrafts in the description for us to see!

Winter never looked so good! Learn how to make this cute paper craft today. It’s easy, inexpensive, and a great way to keep your kids busy indoors during the cold winter months.

Craft Supplies:

  • Blue or Gray Cardstock Paper
  • White Sidewalk Chalk
  • Baby Wipes
  • School Glue or Glue Stick
  • Large Craft Foam Snowflake Shapes

Directions:

  • First things first – grab your dark colored cardstock paper and the white chalk.
  • Rub the white chalk all over the paper to create a “snowy” and cloudy scene, to set your winter day. Add as much or as little as you like.
  • At this point in time you can also draw on some hard line swirls, smaller snowflakes etc.
  • When done adding the chalk to the paper, use baby wipes to clean off your fingers.
  • Now grab your craft foam snowflake cutout and the glue stick.
  • Glue the snowflake piece to the center of the chalk art design.
  • Add any other embellishments you see fit {maybe some glitter glue or some other holiday themed stickers on the snowflake shape.}
  • Then display your custom, one-of-a-kind paper art snowflake scene piece proudly for all to see!
  • Don’t forget to share pictures of your crafty chalk art snowflake designs on your social media sites! #gluedtomycrafts

Customize It:

  • Did you know you can dip your chalk in water to make the white chalk more vibrant on your paper? Yup! Just set a small dish with tap water on the table, dip the chalk in it for a few seconds and then draw on the paper the same way as before. This step would be great to make the fake snow really POP from the paper!
  • Don’t have access to any craft foam snowflake shakes? No worries! You can ALWAYS hand-cut a snowflake design {like the ones we use to make in elementary school} from computer paper and adhere it to the center, instead!

Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use.
