Mad Scientist Puppet Made From Craft Sticks
It’s science fun and Halloween smashed together in a creative pretend play puppet way.
You all know by now that I like to think outside the box – especially this time of year! I really do strive to share unique, never-before-seen kids craft ideas with my readers!
So let’s backtrack a little. This past week I’ve been updating old Halloween posts on Glued To My Crafts.
As I was cleaning up my popsicle stick beaker tutorial from a few years back, it got my wheels spinning and I thought “Hey, we need a mad scientist to pair with this idea!”
So I sat down and got to designing with my favorite craft material. One thing led to another and here we are today with this mad scientist made out of popsicle sticks. Although he’s “mad” in a sense, he’s not hard to recreate!
On that note, please don’t delay on recreating this craft stick scientist idea with your child. Halloween will be over before you know it and I don’t want either of you to miss out the mad scientist making fun!
If you would like to recreate your own mad scientist friend made out of craft sticks, you can find the full step-by-step tutorial below. I just know you are going to have a blast crafting your own scientist puppet friend, right along side with your child!
Happy crafting, my friends! Please don’t forget to share pictures of your super creative popsicle stick scientist friend creations! You always find us on Facebook or use our special branded hashtag. I can’t wait to see how you give it your own “spook-tacular” spin! #gluedtomycrafts

Get those creative juices flowing with this fun Popsicle Stick Mad Scientist craft! It’s perfect for a Halloween art project!
Craft Supplies:
- Jumbo Craft Sticks
- Mini Craft Sticks
- Low Temp Glue Gun
- Gray Cardstock Paper
- White Cardstock Paper
- Black Sharpie Marker
- School Glue
- Wiggle Eye Stickers
- Green Pipe Cleaner
- Washi Tape
Directions:
- First get the glue gun hot and ready {adult supervision please!}
- Assemble the base of your mad scientist friend by gluing THREE jumbo popsicle sticks and TWO mini popsicle sticks together to look like a fence {3 next to each other and the mini popsicle sticks across}
- Set aside to let it dry completely.
- Now grab your sheets of cardstock paper and scissors.
- Cut out a rectangular “lab coat” with a small triangle piece taken out, out of the gray cardstock.
- Use the black Sharpie marker to draw on some small buttons and a pocket embellishment on the paper, to give it some dimension.
- Set it aside.
- Out of the white cardstock, cut out some large, spiky hair for the scientist.
- Use the black Sharpie marker to draw a lightning bolt in the center of it.
- Once you have all the paper pieces done, grab them all, along with the school glue and popsicle stick shape from the first step.
- Go ahead and glue the two paper pieces you just made, to the popsicle stick shape. The hair goes on the top, while the lab coat on the bottom. Be sure to leave plenty of room in the center of the popsicle stick shape, for his face.
- Now grab your eyeball stickers and again, the Sharpie marker.
- Adhere the eyes in the center of the popsicle stick shape and draw on a silly face, directly on the wood, with the marker.
- Finally – the last step. To finish off the Popsicle Stick Mad Scientist Friend craft, grab your green pipe cleaner and a piece of washi tape {or the glue gun.}
- Bend the pipe cleaner a bit, with your hands, to look like crazy arms.
- Secure the pipe cleaner to the back of the popsicle stick shape.
- And that’s it! Add anything else you see fit and display it proudly for all to see!
