Popsicle Stick Cactus Plant - Kid Craft Idea

Green Cactus Made From Popsicle Sticks

Today’s latest tutorial from Glued To My Crafts, is a plant idea that I can’t kill or need to remember to water. Ever. I title this art project idea “Popsicle Stick Cactus Friend” and I hope you inspired to “grow” one with your child this afternoon!

With just simple supplies like jumbo craft sticks, green craft paint and a little colored cardstock paper – you too can pull this “prick” free kid craft together in no time!

So friends – please don’t worry about the dirt, the watering OR the mess! At Glued To My Crafts we have you covered with our simple step-by-step green cactus plant craft tutorial below! Remember – you can also change up the colors of the heart flowers and the planter pot, to give it that custom feel you love!

Popsicle Stick Cactus Plant - Kid Craft Idea

Crafting with the kids just got a lot more fun! Show off your green thumb with this easy cactus plant craft – all you need are some popsicle sticks and imagination!

Craft Supplies:

  • Jumbo Popsicle Sticks – 3 per craft
  • Mini Popsicle Sticks – 2 per craft
  • School Glue
  • Green Paint Crayon
  • Green Cardstock Paper
  • Brown Cardstock Paper
  • Black Marker
  • Wiggle Eye Stickers
  • Small Heart Stickers

Directions:

  • First things first – assemble the base of your cactus friend by gluing THREE jumbo popsicle sticks and TWO mini popsicle sticks together to look like a fence door {3 next to each other and the mini popsicle sticks across to secure in place.}
  • Allow it to dry completely.
  • Repeat for each cactus friend you want to make today.
  • Now grab your green paint crayon.
  • Go ahead and paint the front side of your popsicle stick shape completely green.
  • Set aside the stick shape till later.
  • Now grab your scissors and sheets of cardstock paper.
  • Cut a pot for your cactus to sit in, as well as his arms.
  • Next up – glue those pieces to your painted popsicle stick shape.
  • Grab your Sharpie marker and now draw “dots” or “x’s” all over the wood shape & paper pieces to represent the cactus needles.
  • To finish off the Popsicle Stick Cactus – add some heart “flowers” and the wiggle eyes to bring it to life.
  • Then add other embellishments you see fit and display proudly!!!
