Paper Plate Hot Air Balloon

Happy Wednesday my dear crafty friends! Have you seen all the Dr Seuss themed kid crafts I’ve been sharing on the Glued To My Crafts Blog lately? Well – continuing on with the fun “Seuss-ical” theme, I have another kid friendly craft that goes along perfectly with the Dr Seuss book Oh, The Place You’ll Go!

Oh, The Places You’ll Go! is a personal favorite of mine that is also slowly turning into a “must-read” for my son’s bedtime story. With the whimsical rhymes and perfect life lesson inside, this is a great book for children and adults of all ages. Pair it with our Paper Plate Hot Air Balloon kid craft and you are sure to have a fun “high in the sky” craft time event.

To really top it off, place your child’s picture inside the tissue paper hot air balloon craft to give it a nice special touch and display it proudly for ALL to see. And of course – with the supplies being super simple and inexpensive on the wallet, this kid friendly craft is perfect for teachers to make to display in their classroom as well.

So what are you waiting for? Let your imagination go wild and craft this up with your child today. Then grab the book to read in celebration and really make an afternoon out of it!

Find all the crafty details below in the full paper plate and tissue paper tutorial! Happy crafting, my friends!

Dr Seuss Inspired Paper Plate Hot Air Balloon - Kid Craft

Turn a simple paper plate into an adorable hot air balloon craft inspired by Dr. Seuss! This easy kids craft is perfect for all ages.

Craft Supplies:

  • Large Paper Plate – 1 per craft
  • Red Tissue Paper
  • Light Blue Cardstock Paper
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • School Glue
  • Scissors
  • Stapler
  • 4×6″ Printed Picture

You can find ALL our favorite craft supplies via our AMAZON SHOP link!

Directions:

  • First cut your red tissue paper into small squares.
  • Take your paper plate and cut 1/4 of it off to give the look of the hot air balloon.
  • Put a good amount of glue all over the remainder paper plate piece.
  • Have children place the tissue paper on top of the glue, until the paper plate is completely covered.
  • While they are working on that, cut out the other hot air balloon features from the cardstock. I did a basket, as well as strips for the rope that ties the basket to the balloon.
  • To finish off the Dr Seuss inspired hot air balloon kid craft idea – staple/glue the cardstock pieces in their designated spots on the paper plate, as well as adding your child’s picture inside.
  • Then display proudly! {or add other embellishments to really make it your own!}

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use. Following these guidelines will ensure that crafts remain fun, creative, and, most importantly, safe for everyone involved!
