Are you looking for a fun and creative activity to do with your kids? Look no further! Have you ever heard of the popular children’s book, Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle? Well, there is now a craft idea inspired by this amazing story. All it takes are some simple items like popsicle sticks and glue to create an adorable little blue truck!

Craft Supplies:

  • Jumbo Popsicle Sticks – 4 per craft
  • Mini Popsicle Sticks – 2 per craft
  • School Glue
  • Blue Craft Paint
  • Paint Brushes
  • Small Paper Plate
  • Black Cardstock Paper
  • Blue Cardstock Paper
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Paper Craft Scissors

Directions:

  • First things first – grab FOUR large popsicle sticks and TWO mini sized ones {this is per blue truck you want to make}
  • Lay the four large ones next to each other, one by one, on a flat surface.
  • Now grab your other two mini popsicle sticks and glue them the other direction, on top of the jumbo sticks, to create a fence.
  • Set it aside to allow it to dry a bit.
  • Repeat the above step for each little blue truck you are making.
  • Now grab your small paper plate, craft paint and paint brush.
  • Squirt your paint on the paper plate.
  • When the popsicle sticks are secure enough, go ahead and paint the front of the shape, completely blue.
  • Set it aside again to allow it to dry a bit.
  • Now grab all your cardstock paper pieces and scissors.
  • Cut out wheels, a window, a head light etc. for your truck.
  • To finish off the Popsicle Stick Blue Truck, glue the cardstock pieces in place, on the painted popsicle stick shape.
  • Add any other embellishments you see fit.

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use. Following these guidelines will ensure that crafts remain fun, creative, and, most importantly, safe for everyone involved!
