Popsicle Stick Robots - Super Creative Kid Craft Idea

Robot Craft Made With Craft Sticks

Inspired by our newest book in our collection {Pete the Cat : Robo-Pete by James Dean} today I present to YOU our Popsicle Stick Robots kid craft idea!!! All you need is wood craft sticks, paper and buttons to make it happen!

When Pete’s friends don’t want to play the same games as he does, Pete has a great idea—he’ll build a robot that’s just like him! But when Robo-Pete gets a little out of control, Pete realizes the best thing about his friends is that no matter what they like to play, it’s always fun when they’re all together.

So what are you waiting for? Let’s make our own GROOVY robots from popsicle sticks and read the book in honor afterwards! You can find ALL the details you need to know, in the full tutorial below!

Happy crafting my friends!!! {affiliate link for Pete the Cat book series on Amazon} Don’t forget to share pictures of your finished craft stick and paper robots by tagging us on Instagram. I can’t wait to admire your hard work and see those robots made from craft sticks, in action in your home!!#gluedtomycrafts

This popsicle stick robot puppet is a creative and easy kids craft idea that will keep them entertained for hours!

Craft Supplies:

  • Jumbo Popsicle Sticks
  • Mini Popsicle Sticks
  • School Glue or Hot Glue Gun
  • Silver Craft Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Paper Plate
  • Robot Printable – on our landing page
  • Cardstock Paper
  • Scissors
  • Silver Pipe Cleaners
  • Embellishments

Directions:

  • First glue your popsicle sticks together to look like a rectangle {3 jumbo next to each other with two mini across.}
  • Set aside to let it dry completely.
  • Now you are ready for paint. Go ahead and paint your popsicle sticks however you like. We gave our robots a silver look but you are more than welcome to do whatever color you like!
  • Set it aside again to allow it to dry completely.
  • Next grab your robot head printable.
  • Trim out one of the head shapes from the printable.
  • Before you set aside the remaining cardstock paper {because you will want to save it for another round of robot crafting!} cut out a small rectangle shape for the belly of the robot.
  • At this point in time you should also cut out the antenna and legs for the robot from your sheets of colored cardstock paper.
  • To finish off your Popsicle Stick Robots – glue all your cardstock pieces, as well as some “button” buttons to the decorated popsicle stick shape.
  • Go ahead and also “bend” and twist your pipe cleaner so you can tape and/or glue it to the back for his arms.
  • Then let it all sit aside to let it dry completely before displaying proudly!!!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use. Following these guidelines will ensure that crafts remain fun, creative, and, most importantly, safe for everyone involved!
