Well – continuing on with the fun theme, I have another kid friendly craft that goes along perfectly with one of my favorite childhood books, Cat In The Hat by Dr Seuss.

Cat In The Hat is probably the most recognizable Dr. Seuss books around and this easy paper bag cat puppet kid craft is perfect to make in honor of that mischievous cat in the striped hat! And with the supplies being super simple and inexpensive on the wallet, this craft is perfect for little ones or classroom fun.

Not to mention – your finished black cat piece will make for great imaginative play for later on in the afternoon after you read the book together!

Simply have your child color the paper bag to look like the Cat in the Hat, and then let them have fun making him talk and move. You can even use this puppet during story time to bring the classic Dr. Seuss book to life.

So whether you’re looking for a kid-friendly craft or a way to add some extra excitement to story time, this Cat in the Hat paper bag puppet is sure to fit the bill!

Craft Supplies:

  • Brown Paper Bag
  • Black Craft Paint
  • Foam Paint Brush
  • Craft Scissors
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Black Cardstock Paper
  • School Glue
  • Hand-Held Office Stapler
  • Black Marker
  • Red Marker

Directions:

  • First things first – have your child paint one side of their paper bag completely black.
  • Set aside to let it dry completely.
  • While that is drying, trace both of your child’s hands on the white cardstock paper and let them trim out the two designs with scissors.
  • Next cut out/draw on the cat’s other features with the remainder cardstock paper. Think face, the iconic striped hat, whiskers etc.
  • To finish off the Cat In The Hat craft, simple glue/staple on the cardstock paper pieces in their appropriate places.
  • Then display proudly or use as a puppet for pretend play.
