Paint Splat Raccoon Craft Idea For Kids

Create, learn, and have fun with the “Paint Splat Raccoon” craft idea!

This gray and black craft not only keeps kids entertained but also helps develop their fine motor skills, color recognition, and imagination.

Let’s explore how to create this adorable raccoon, step-by-step, and turn a simple afternoon into a memorable creative adventure! Happy crafting, my friends!

Craft Supplies:

  • Gray Craft Paint
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Black Cardstock Paper
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • School Glue
  • Large Wiggle Eyes {two per raccoon craft}

Directions:

  • First things first – fold your white cardstock paper in half {hamburger style.} Open it back up.
  • Squirt some gray craft paint on ONE side of the white paper. You don’t want to drench it in one spot but at the same time you want to make sure there is a good amount of paint ON the paper, by making several lines and squiggles of paint.
  • Now fold up the paper and caress it with your hands, to make the paint transfer {aka – squish} to both sides. Some paint might ooze out from the sides so be prepared for that.
  • Carefully open up the folded paper to reveal your paint splat design. Set it aside for now.
  • Next up – grab the remaining black cardstock paper and pencil.
  • Trace your hands on the paper.
  • Follow that up by cutting out the handprint designs. These will become the raccoon’s eyes.
  • At this point in time, you should also cut out a small heart shaped nose and two triangle ears from the remaining black paper.
  • Finally – the last step of this paint splat raccoon craft. Glue your cardstock pieces and googly eyes to the painted piece of paper. Start with the handprints {going outward from each other} and then go from there.
  • Set aside to let it dry completely before displaying proudly!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use.
