Tissue Paper & Paper Plate Raccoon – Kid Craft Tutorial
Kid crafts seem to be the most popular posts on the Glued To My Crafts Blog {the Pinterest pins tell no lie!} But I admit – I have strayed away from sharing as many kid crafts as I use too. I would like to blame that we were on summer break, but I think it was more of a lack of motivation on my part.
With that being said, I really need to get back into a routine of sharing MORE kid friendly craft ideas w/you guys in the coming months. {You want that – right?} And all this starts TODAY! With fall/winter creeping up fast, I just know that the ideas are going to be flowing left and right. You may get sick of me… {I hope not!}
If you have been a fan of my blog for awhile, you may remember our Dr Seuss inspired Fox Craft that I shared towards the beginning of the year.
That craft has REALLY blown up in the Pinterest atmosphere and I’m excited to give it a “friend.” Today’s kid craft is a two fold though. You will know why when you stroll to the bottom. But for now – let’s focus on how we made this Paper Plate Raccoon craft! Then HOPEFULLY you will inspired to recreate it with your child today and share pictures of it on our Facebook page to admire! WINK WINK!

Paper Plate Raccoon Craft Supplies:
* Large Paper Plate {one per raccoon craft}
* Gray Tissue Paper
* Black/White Cardstock
* School Glue
* Basic Craft Scissors
* Hand-Held Office Stapler
* Various Paper Scallop Punches

Directions:
* First you will want to trim your paper plate down a bit. You want the face to be more triangular but still round. {I hope the above picture explains it better}
* Cut your gray tissue paper into small squares.
* Slather a good amount of glue all over the paper plate.
* Have your child place the tissue paper on the glue, until the paper plate is completely covered for the raccoon’s fur.
* While your child does that – punch/cut out the embellishments to give the raccoon life.
* Now staple/glue those paper pieces to the paper plate.
* Display your finished paper plate raccoon face craft proudly for all to see!

Isn’t he cute? Now I have a confession. When I first came up with this raccoon craft idea – I had the perfect image in my head. But once I assembled it w/my son – it didn’t turn out exactly. In fact, I ended up taking final pictures for this very blog post and kept thinking to myself “This isn’t right?? What is off?? This looks nothing like a raccoon!” After googling images {yes I did} I ended up adding the black strips next to the raccoon’s eye and the ears got trimmed down. {proof that not all things go according to plans in the craft world!}
But before I hit the delete button on the first set of pictures, it finally dawned on me! This “raccoon” looks a lot like the dog from Disney’s Frankenweenie.
So IF you want to make {or turn} this very craft into the dog – here is your inspiration! {ha!}

Like I said – not everything goes according to plan, but we make it work!! That’s the fun thing about kid crafts. Who is going to judge you if it turns out wrong?!? My son still enjoyed himself and so did I! #gluedtomycrafts
