Craft Supplies:

Here’s what you’ll need to create your torn paper bird nest craft:

  • Chirp Chirp Printable – on our landing page
  • Cardstock Paper – white
  • Construction Paper – brown
  • Crayons, Markers or Coloring Pencils
  • School Glue or Glue Stick
  • Embellishments – leaves, flowers, egg stickers etc.

Having everything ready before you start will make the crafting process smoother and more enjoyable for everyone involved.

Directions:

While crafting, talk to kids about birds and spring. Explain how birds build nests in the spring to lay eggs and raise their chicks. This craft is a great way to combine creativity with learning!

  • Start by downloading the free printable template from our torn paper landing page. Print it out on white cardstock to provide a sturdy base.
  • Have kids use crayons to color in the bird design on the printable. They can make the bird as colorful and creative as they like!
  • Now help your child cut/tear their brown construction paper into small pieces. The brown pieces will be for the nest.
  • Next, grab the school glue and put a line of glue along the bottom of the bird design in printable. Have children place the torn brown paper pieces on top of the glue, layering them until they have form a nest design they like.
  • The final step is to add some sticker embellishments around the nest. These can represent leaves or even small branches. Encourage kids to add their own creative touches, like flowers, eggs, or extra birds around the nest.
  • Once done decorating, set the craft aside to let it dry completely. Display their beautiful bird nest proudly to celebrate spring!
