Not to mention, our Christmas key themed craft idea super simple and fun for all ages BUT it’s also really inexpensive when it comes to the supplies {we are talking cents!}You could even easily turn your finished wood key piece into an instant ornament by hot gluing a small piece ribbon to the back, so you can place it on the tree for Santa to see on Christmas Eve.
You could even place a small picture cutout of your child’s face in the center of the snowflake {where the handle of the key is} to turn it into a sweet keepsake for grandparents or close friends & family to enjoy year after year!

Popsicle Stick Santa’s Key
Bring the magic of Christmas to your home with this easy popsicle stick Santa key craft! It’s perfect for kids of all ages.
Craft Supplies:
To get started, gather the following items. Don’t worry if you don’t have all of them; feel free to improvise!
- Mini Popsicle Sticks – 2 per craft
- Jumbo Popsicle Sticks – 3 per craft
- Hot Glue Gun {or school glue}
- Craft Paint
- Small Paint Brush
- Small Paper Plate
- Craft Felt Snowflake or Stickers
- Santa Key Printable – on our landing page
- White Cardstock Paper
- Glitter Cardstock Paper
- Craft Scissors
Directions:
- Start by gathering two jumbo popsicle sticks and three mini popsicle sticks for each key you plan to make.
- Heat up your glue gun and get it ready for use.
- Using the image above as a guide, place the two jumbo popsicle sticks side by side. Next, glue the three mini sticks perpendicularly across one side of the jumbo sticks, resembling the “teeth” of a real key. You can space the mini sticks evenly or position them closer together—it’s entirely up to you! Similarly, you can choose which side of the jumbo sticks to attach the mini sticks.
- Allow the glue to dry completely, but keep your glue gun on for later steps.
- Now it’s time to paint! Squeeze some paint onto a paper plate and use a small brush to paint your wooden key in any style you like. I left the “teeth” unpainted for contrast, but feel free to paint them as well. Let the paint dry completely before moving on.
- To finish your Santa Magic Key Craft, attach a felt snowflake to the top end of the jumbo popsicle sticks (opposite the mini sticks) using hot glue. This becomes the handle of your Christmas key.
- Next, cut out one of the word strips from our free printable (linked above) and glue it to the center of your decorated key. If printing isn’t an option, you can handwrite the message on paper or use scrapbook stickers instead.
- Add any final embellishments to personalize your key, then proudly display it for everyone to see!
- For extra versatility, you can hot glue a string to the back to make it an ornament or attach magnets to turn it into a fridge decoration.
- For a personal touch, trim a small photo of your child (like a wallet-sized school picture), cut around their face, and glue it onto the felt snowflake portion of the key.
- Enjoy your festive wooden Christmas key creation!
