Today’s unique popsicle stick Santa key tutorial is absolutely perfect for those who believe and want to invite Santa in their home during the holiday season.
Not to mention, they are super fun to make {and share} with those you love the most! With so many places for you to pick up small craft felt snowflakes this time of year, you really have no excuse not to make a few with your aspiring little crafter {btw – I bought mine at Hobby Lobby in their Christmas aisle recently!}
Not only is this a Christmas key themed craft idea super simple and fun for all ages BUT it’s also really inexpensive when it comes to the supplies {we are talking cents!} PLUS if you like, you can easily turn your finished wood key piece into an instant ornament by hot gluing a small piece ribbon to the back, so you can place it on the tree for Santa to see on Christmas Eve.
You could even place a small picture cutout of your child’s face in the center of the snowflake {where the handle of the key is} to turn it into a sweet keepsake for grandparents or close friends & family to enjoy year after year!
Happy crafting, my dear friends! Be safe and we send you so much crafty love your way, from us here at Glued To My Crafts! #gluedtomycrafts

Directions:
- First grab TWO jumbo popsicle sticks and THREE mini stick per key you want to make today.
- Get the glue gun hot and ready.
- Using our picture above as an example, you are going to lay the two jumbo popsicle sticks next to each other and then glue the three mini ones {like the teeth of a real key} the opposite direction, only on one side, to secure the whole thing in place. Just envision a real key – you can either space the mini sticks a little bit apart or have them closer together. The choice is yours! Also the side of the jumbo popsicle stick is also up to you.
- Allow the hot glue to dry completely on the craft sticks but don’t unplug your glue gun just yet!
- Next up – painting. Squirt some paint on a paper plate and use a small paint brush to paint your wood key however you like. I left the “teeth” of my keys unpainted but you can of course paint those as well.
- Allow the craft paint to dry a bit before you move onto the next step.
- To finish off the Santa Magic Key Craft – hot glue the craft felt snowflake to the OTHER end of the jumbo popsicle sticks, where the mini popsicle sticks are not. This is now the handle of the Christmas key.
- Go ahead and also trim out one of the word strips from our free printable {listed above} and glue it to the center of the decorated key piece. If you don’t have the capability to print our free file or you just don’t want to, you can also handwrite it on paper or use scrapbook stickers instead.
- Then add other embellishments and display your wood Christmas key proudly for all to see!!!
- Remember – you can easily hot glue string to the back to turn it into an ornament or add magnets to the back to add it to the fridge for displaying.
- For added customization, take a mini printed picture of your child {maybe a wallet sized school picture} trim around their head in the picture and glue that to the craft felt snowflake potion.
