Get in the holiday spirit by making your own Christmas stocking ornament. This craft is simple and easy, and can be completed in just a few minutes. Plus, it’s a great way to recycle popsicle sticks!

A DIY Christmas lets you create one-of-a-kind decorations for the tree, as well as making awesome memories crafting with your children or grandchildren.

With our latest holiday kids craft tutorial, I really hope you take the time to make your Christmas tree {and home} sparkle bright, as you build & decorate your own craft stick red stocking ornament with so much of your own style & personality! I can’t stress it enough – but this ornament craft idea is a great way to raid your stash and use up any random supplies you might not have a need for anymore {especially if you have any leftover from your previous Christmas art projects!}

Our Christmas stocking themed craft idea may be small in size but it’s mighty! Popsicle Stick Christmas Stocking Ornament - Kid Craft Popsicle Stick Christmas Stocking Ornament Craft

This is a fun and easy Christmas craft that you can do with the kids. All you need are some popsicle sticks, glue, and cotton balls. You can recreate your own stocking within minutes. Let’s get started!

Craft Supplies:

  • Jumbo Popsicle Sticks – 7 per craft
  • Low-Temp Hot Glue Gun
  • Hot Glue Gun Sticks
  • Red Craft Paint
  • Foam Paint Brush
  • Small Paper Plate
  • White Cotton Balls
  • Basic Craft Scissors
  • Twine or Ribbon for hanging
  • Embellishments

Directions: 

  • First things first – get your glue gun hot and ready!
  • Grab your seven popsicle sticks {7 per ornament craft.}
  • Start off by laying four popsicle stick next to each other, on a flat surface.
  • Now grab the remaining three popsicle sticks and hot glue them, on top of the first four, going the opposite direction to create a sock or stocking shape.
  • Allow the hot glue to dry completely before moving onto the next step.
  • Now grab your small paper plate, red craft paint and paint brush.
  • Squirt some red paint on the paper plate.
  • Using the paint brush, paint the newly made popsicle stick shape completely red.
  • When ready, grab your cotton balls and the hot glue gun again.
  • Hot glue a line of cotton balls on the painted popsicle stick shape, just like on the top of a stocking.
  • Finally the last step – cut, tie and hot glue some string to the back of your decorated piece to make it into an ornament.
  • Then add ANY and ALL embellishments you like to make your stocking stand out. Maybe some small holiday stickers, some glitter glue or craft sequins!
  • When it’s all dry enough, display your popsicle stick Christmas stocking ornament proudly for all to see!
