Directions:
- First things first – grab our free cat printable, listed above in the supply list. This will give you a few features to make your paper cat craft come to life!
- Next, go ahead and find it on your computer, right click and print the file on a single sheet of white cardstock. You only need ONE printable to make one chalk art cat craft. Print as many as you like but only use our file for personal use please.
- Now that you have the printable, go ahead and color in the various sections of the printable. The only thing that should be left “blank” is the eyes.
- Once done coloring, trim out each shape.
- Discard excess paper.
- Set aside various cat cutouts.
- Now grab a single sheet of black cardstock and your various pieces of sidewalk chalk.
- Make several lines going outward from the center of the paper {see our image for example} to make the “fur” for your kitten. Add as many lines and colors that you like. You want it to be nice and “fluffy” though.
- Use baby wipes to clean off excess chalk from fingers and hands.
- When done with the chalk, go ahead and grab your cat cutouts from earlier & your glue stick.
- Starting with the oval shape {which is the mouth of the cat} glue the shape to the center of your chalk art design you just made.
- Follow that up with the circle eyes, triangle ears and if you like, the triangle for on the forehead.
- Now add any other embellishments you see fit.
- Then display your chalk art kitten paper piece proudly for all to see!
Change It Up:
- Please don’t feel limited by us using black cardstock paper for our crafty cat pieces. You can experiment with different shades of color of paper to see what really makes the “chalk fur” POP out.
- On that note, did you know you can dip your chalk in water to make the colors more vibrant on your paper? Yup! Just set a small dish with clean tap water on the table, dip the chalk in it for a few seconds and then draw on the paper the same way as before. Repeat, over and over to give your craft some dimension. Just be sure to let the chalk over cardstock paper dry completely before adhering the various cat face pieces to the paper and finishing the craft
- What if you don’t have a printer in your home? No worries! You can always hand-draw the elements on white cardstock paper and go from there. When I designed the free printable for today’s tutorial, I went with very basic triangle and circle shapes. This way you can recreate these designs on your own paper, with little to no drawing skills. Just open our file on your computer and use it as your inspiration as you draw/cut out you needed shapes.
