We LOVE combining storytime into craft time, around here! And with today’s simple story time kid craft idea – you will too!!!
Pete the Cat takes on the classic favorite children’s song “Five Little Pumpkins” in New York Times bestselling author James Dean’s Pete the Cat: Five Little Pumpkins. Join Pete as he rocks out to this cool adaptation of the classic Halloween song!
This kid friendly idea is perfect for a fun Halloween themed craft that young children can make with ease {psst – did you see that adorable handprint aspect?!} So what are you waiting for? Make your own GROOVY Five Little Pumpkins craft and read the book in honor of it!
Happy crafting my friends!!! {affiliate link for book} #gluedtomycrafts
Craft Stick Little Pumpkins Supplies:
* Jumbo Popsicle Sticks {7 per craft}
* School Glue
* 5 Foam Pumpkin Stickers {Michaels}
* 5 Mini Clothespins
* Blue/Yellow/White Cardstock
* Craft Scissors
* Black Marker
Directions:
* First glue your popsicle stick together to create the base of the craft. Be sure to leave some space between the popsicle stick pieces so it’s looks like a picket fence. Set aside to let it dry completely.
* While drying, grab your cardstock and black marker. Trace/trim out your child’s handprint to create a body for cat. With the remaining cardstock, cut out other embellishments to give him life. Set all aside.
* Now grab your mini clothespins and foam pumpkin stickers. Go ahead and place the stickers on the clothespins to create the “five little pumpkins” that will sit on top of the fence. Use your black marker to give each pumpkin a customized look {psst – if you don’t have stickers, cut out your own from craft foam and attach with glue!}
* To finish the Halloween themed craft, have children “pinch” their pumpkins to the fence piece and glue your handprint cat to the front. At this time you can also add other embellishments you see fit. Then let it dry completely before displaying proudly!
You can always take this idea and change it up a bit by following the steps above but adding it to a piece of black cardstock for a nighttime feel!
Or even adding your popsicle stick pieces/stickers to a watercolor “night” backdrop hand painted by your child!
And just for fun – since we love Pete the Cat sooo much around here, I HAD to buy my son a shirt in honor. You can find the shirt for sale HERE {affiliate link} And of course – the chicks really do dig him and the shirt – of course!!!
