Paper Plate Fall Butterflies - Kid Craft

Paper Plate & Leaf Butterfly Craft Idea

Inspired by nature, today’s Paper Plate Fall Butterflies craft tutorial is our latest idea using simple, inexpensive materials we found at our local Dollar Tree recently. It’s crafty fun on a budget!

To complete this autumn inspired leaf covered butterfly art project, all you need is a paper plate, pipe cleaner and handful of decorative plastic leaves. That’s it! It’s absolutely easy peasy for crafty moms to pull together within minutes!

So go ahead! Check out the full butterfly craft tutorial below to be inspired. Not only is this craft idea super simple, really inexpensive and sure to bring a smile to your child’s face – BUT you will also enjoy soaking in the beautiful seasonal colors as you walk by your child’s creation, displayed proudly in your home!

Paper Plate Fall Butterflies - Kid Craft

Craft Supplies:

  • Paper Plate {large or small – one per butterfly craft}
  • Craft Scissors
  • Plastic Decorative Leaves {or the real stuff from outside!}
  • School Glue
  • One Pipe Cleaner {one per butterfly craft}
  • Construction Paper
  • Hand-Held Office Stapler

Directions:

  • First you will want to make the body of your butterflies. This is done by cutting your paper plate, straight up the center to make TWO equal sized pieces.
  • When done with the cutting step, squirt some glue on the paper plate halves and place a few decorative leaves on top, until the paper plate pieces are completely covered.
  • Set aside your decorated piece to let them dry completely.
  • Now grab your construction paper and scissors.
  • Cut out a simple body shape for the center of the paper plate.
  • To finish off the Paper Plate Autumn Butterflies – simply fold a pipe cleaner in half {for the antennas} and staple on to the paper plate.
  • Add the paper body cutout on top of that {you can use the school glue or stapler for that step.}
  • Add other embellishments you see fit before displaying proudly!
