Groovy Buttons Craft Idea Using A Paper Plate

Hi my GROOVY friends! Are you a big fan of the Pete the Cat children’s book series like we are? My son is ALWAYS requesting to read one at bedtime. I admit, I’m starting to enjoy them as well.

So on that note, not only am I super excited to be sharing this really easy and inexpensive Paper Plate Button craft idea with you all today but I’m also proud to say, it goes along perfectly with the book where Pete the Cat is wearing his favorite shirt—the one with the four totally groovy buttons. But when one falls off, does Pete cry? Goodness, no! He just keeps on singing his song—after all, what could be groovier than three groovy buttons? Count down with Pete in this rocking new story from the creators of the bestselling Pete the Cat books “His Four Groovy Buttons” by James Dean.

Paired with our simple craft tutorial found below, this is the perfect way to create a  jam-packed {but fun} afternoon with story time and craft time. Yup – this is a must-do craft activity that is perfect for kids of all ages and you won’t believe how simple it is!!!

Tissue Paper & Paper Plate Button - Kid Craft

Add a touch of whimsy to your story time crafts with this easy tissue paper and paper plate button craft tutorial for kids!

Craft Supplies:

  • Paper Plates – small or large, 1 per craft
  • Tissue Paper – any color
  • Craft Scissors
  • Black Cardstock Paper
  • School Glue
  • Circle Craft Punch

Directions:

  • First cut your tissue paper into small squares.
  • Next put a good amount of glue all over the paper plate.
  • Have children place the tissue paper on top of the glue, until they are completely covered.
  • While they are working on that, cut out four circles from the black cardstock paper.
  • To finish off the Paper Plate Button kid craft – simple glue the cardstock circles in the center of the paper plate.
  • Then display proudly! {or add other embellishments to really make it your own!}
