Cotton Pad Paper Plate Cupcake Craft

Inspired by the book Pete the Cat and the Missing Cupcake by James Dean {affiliate link} today I present to YOU our Paper Plate and Cotton Pad Cupcakes kid craft idea!

Join Pete the Cat in a brand-new story and help him and his friends find the missing cupcakes! Pete the Cat and his friends are busy as can be baking cupcakes for a cupcake party, and Pete can’t wait to perform with his groovy band. But some of the cupcakes have gone missing. Who could have taken them? In this latest Pete the Cat picture book adventure, by New York Times bestselling authors James and Kimberly Dean, Pete and the gang solve the mystery of the missing cupcakes and learn that it’s cool to be kind.

We are stepping outside the box today by using cotton pads to make soft and fluffy cupcake frosting! Not only is this kid friendly craft idea mess-free but it’s also really inexpensive too! We are talking CENTS to make this paper plate cupcake idea come to life within minutes!

Paper Plate & Cotton Pad Cupcakes - Kid Craft Idea

Get your little kiddos imaginations fired up and have a blast creating these adorable creations with them today!

Craft Supplies:

  • White Paper Plates
  • White Cotton Pads
  • Cardstock Paper
  • White School Glue
  • Kid Scissors
  • Sharpie Markers
  • Stapler
  • Glitter or Craft Sequins
  • Small Red Pom Poms

Directions:

  • First cut your paper plate in half. You can make TWO cupcakes with this way!
  • Next grab your cotton pads and school glue.
  • Glue your cotton pads onto each paper plate half. This will be start of the frosting. If desired, you can also cut up the cotton pads for better coverage.
  • Once done, set aside.
  • Now take your cardstock paper and cut two squares out. This will be the base of the cupcake. If desired, you can draw lines on it to make it look like a cupcake liner.
  • Go ahead and staple the square piece to the bottom of each paper plate half. Your piece should start to look like a cupcake at this point.
  • To finish off your Paper Plate and Cotton Pad Cupcakes – add some flair to your cupcake! You can add sequin and glitter “sprinkles” as well as a red pom pom cherry on top.
  • Once done, set aside to let them dry completely before displaying proudly!!!
