Raise your hand if you are ready for warmer weather. I know I am!
With the kind of winter we have had, we are anxiously waiting for the first official signs of spring.
Although we are experiencing some good temps in our area this week, Wyoming likes to play tricks on us {seriously – it can still snow in June} so I’m not holding my breathe too much just yet. But I am getting a little excited and may be hiding the heavy coat in the back of the closet soon!
To get ready to celebrate the upcoming warmer weather, we have been cranking out the spring themed kid crafts in our house, left & right. One of my favorite crafts so far happens to be today’s post and it’s titled Paper Plate Handprint Flower Kid Craft.
And just like ALL our kid friendly crafts & tutorials on the blog – this paper plate activity is super simple, fun for all ages and really inexpensive too. PLUS it makes for great decorations in the house, as you patiently wait for spring weather to arrive.
So what are you waiting for? Let’s grab supplies, think some good thoughts about the weather and get to work on this simple DIY craft ASAP.
Happy crafting my friends! Don’t forget to share pictures of your flowers made from paper plates with us on our Facebook page! #gluedtomycrafts
Paper Plate Handprint Flower Craft Supplies:
* Small Paper Plate {one per flower craft}
* Yellow Tissue Paper
* Green Colored Cardstock
* Orange Colored Cardstock
* School Glue
* Kid Friendly Craft Scissors
* Hand-Held Office Stapler
* Pencil or Pen
Directions:
* First cut your yellow tissue paper into small squares {let the kids practice their cutting skills}
* Take your paper plate and put a good amount of glue all over it.
* Have children place the tissue paper on top of the glue, until the paper plate is completely covered.
* When they are done with that, set it aside to let it dry completely while you trace/trim out the handprints from the orange cardstock, which will become the petals of the flower. Depending on the size of your child’s hands – you may need to do 6-10 handprints. Be sure to also cut out the flower’s stem from the green cardstock.
* To finish off the kid craft – simply staple the handprints around the paper plate, as well as stapling on the stem. Then display proudly!
This particular paper plate flower kid craft also goes along perfectly with the book The Tiny Seed by one of our favorite authors, Eric Carle. So to be sure to grab a copy and really make it a full afternoon of fun with reading & crafts!
