We are SWIMMING on by with another easy summer themed kid craft idea on Glued To My Crafts today!
This time we are calling it an “under the sea” idea and it’s titled Mermaid In Paper Plate Clam. It’s super adorable, comes with a FREE color-in printable to get you started AND can be customized however you like!
With minimal steps and supplies, my favorite part is that kids can make their mermaid {and paper plate clam shell} resemble their style & extra good taste!
Have you been on the fence on what to do “crafty-wise” with the kids this summer? If you have been… hopefully we can change your mind today with our latest mermaid in clam kid craft idea!
It’s simply mer-tastic {if I do say so myself!} and kids can recreate it with ease. Plus moms and dads don’t have to go crazy on the supply list either so it’s going to be a win-win for everyone!
We have all the details and FREE MERMAID BODY PRINTABLE TEMPLATE listed below for your convenience {a HUGE thank you to LizaMarkleSparkles on Etsy for the awesome mermaid graphic!}
Happy crafting, my dear friends!

Directions:
- First things first – download and print the FREE coloring page mermaid printable listed above. Print one print per craft, on a single sheet of white cardstock.
- Have children color in the mermaid in their printable however they like. Let them go wild with the colors!
- When done, have them trim out their shape and set it aside till you are ready for it.
- Next up, grab ONE large paper plate for their clam shell.
- Go ahead and cut it in half and trim it down a bit {remove a little from the center and include a little jagged edge} to resemble a clam shell in two pieces.
- Now grab your various craft paints and paint brushes. Decorate the paper plate halves you just made, however you like.
- If desired, sprinkle glitter on top of the wet paint for extra sparkle!
- When done, set your paper plate pieces aside to let them dry a bit.
- Finally – the last step. Grab all your paper pieces and stapler.
- Staple the two paper plate pieces back together to look like an opening clam shell.
- Follow that up by stapling in the paper mermaid, to the back of the paper plate pieces. Your mermaid should look like she is peeking out of a cracked open clam shell.
- And that’s it! Add other embellishments you see fit before displaying your Peeking Mermaid In Paper Plate Clam Piece proudly for ALL to see!
