Directions:

  • First things first – print out the FREE coloring page mermaid printable listed above. Print one print per craft, on a single sheet of white cardstock.
  • Have children color in the mermaid in their printable however they like. Let them go wild with the colors!
  • When done, have them trim out their shape and set it aside till you are ready for it.
  • Next up, grab ONE large paper plate for their clam shell.
  • Go ahead and cut it in half and trim it down a bit {remove a little from the center and include a little jagged edge} to resemble a clam shell in two pieces.
  • Now grab your various craft paints and paint brushes. Decorate the paper plate halves you just made, however you like.
  • If desired, sprinkle glitter on top of the wet paint for extra sparkle!
  • When done, set your paper plate pieces aside to let them dry a bit.
  • Finally – the last step. Grab all your paper pieces and stapler.
  • Staple the two paper plate pieces back together to look like an opening clam shell.
  • Follow that up by stapling in the paper mermaid, to the back of the paper plate pieces. Your mermaid should look like she is peeking out of a cracked open clam shell.
  • And that’s it! Add other embellishments you see fit before displaying your Peeking Mermaid In Paper Plate Clam Piece proudly for ALL to see!
