Popsicle Stick Valentine Monkey Puppet – Kid Craft For Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is FAST approaching and I hope you have been inspired by ALL the crafty goodness on our website lately. If not – this Popsicle Stick Valentine Holding Monkey tutorial just might be your turning point {least I hope!}
It’s got my favorite craft medium {jumbo popsicle sticks} and that lovestruck feel that is perfect for the season we are in, now that February has officially begun!
My favorite part? The fact that these craft stick monkey creations are holding small heart shaped “valentines” in their clothespin “hands.” I mean – hello?! It doesn’t get any cuter than that!
Find all the crafty details below and recreate it with your child today!
Just one last note – I highly suggest this craft for the older children in your home since a glue gun is involved. Other than that – this tutorial is super easy, just like ALL the tutorials you can find on Glued To My Crafts right now!
Happy crafting, my friends!!! Please don’t forget to share pictures of your Valentine monkey puppet creations on our Facebook page to admire from a far! I can’t wait to see how adorable they turn out! #gluedtomycrafts
Valentine Monkey Craft Supplies:
* Jumbo Popsicle Sticks {3 per monkey craft}
* Mini Popsicle Sticks {2 per monkey craft}
* Mini Clothespins {2 per monkey craft}
* Low Temp Glue Gun
* Brown Craft Paint w/paint brush
* Small Valentine Hearts {I found my felt ones at Dollar Tree}
* Light Tan Cardstock
* Basic Paper Scissors
* Small Wiggle Eyes
* Sharpie Marker
* Brown Pipe Cleaner {1 per monkey craft}
optional – small bows, heart stickers
Directions:
* First get the glue gun hot and ready!
* Assemble the base of your monkey friend by gluing THREE jumbo popsicle sticks and TWO mini popsicle sticks together to look like a fence {3 next to each other and the mini popsicle sticks across}
* Set aside to let it dry completely. Repeat for each friend you want to make.
* When dry enough, go ahead and paint your newly made popsicle stick shape completely brown. Set aside.
* Go ahead and also paint your TWO mini clothespins completely brown as well. Set aside.
* Now grab your light brown cardstock. Cut out a large oval piece for the nose/mouth of the monkey. Use the black Sharpie marker to draw on a smile on the paper piece.
* Before you put away the Sharpie marker, take your brown pipe cleaner and bend/twist it around the Sharpie marker to create a “curled” tail for the monkey. Set aside the pipe cleaner tail.
* Now this step is CRUCIAL. Take your TWO painted mini clothespins and pinch them around the valentine heart shape to look like hands/arm holding it.
* Go ahead and hot glue the combined piece you just made, to the center of the painted popsicle stick shape.
* To finish off the Popsicle Stick Valentine Monkey craft, hot glue your pipe cleaner tail to the back of the popsicle stick shape and finally the cardstock piece to his face.
* Then let it dry completely before displaying proudly!!!
