We are NOT MONKEY-ING around today! Recreating these popsicle stick monkey puppets is a fun and easy craft project for kids of all ages.

This project can be adapted to use different materials, depending on what is available. It’s perfect for a story time, when you need something to keep the kids entertained, or as a classroom craft activity. Best of all, the finished puppets are cute and playful!

Popsicle Stick Monkey Puppet

This project is easy enough for kids of all ages to recreate, and it’s a great way to entertain. Plus, monkeys are always a hit with kids! So get ready to have some fun with this popsicle stick monkey puppet craft.

Craft Supplies:

  • Jumbo Popsicle Sticks – 3 per craft
  • Mini Popsicle Sticks – 2 per craft
  • Mini Clothespins
  • Low Temp Glue Gun
  • Brown Craft Paint
  • Small Paper Plate
  • Large Paint Brush
  • Monkey Printable – on our landing page
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Crayons or Markers
  • Scissors
  • Small Wiggle Eyes
  • Brown Pipe Cleaner
  • Yellow Cardstock Paper

Directions:

  1. First get the glue gun hot and ready!
  2. Assemble the base of your monkey friend by gluing THREE jumbo popsicle sticks and TWO mini popsicle sticks together to look like a fence {3 next to each other and the mini popsicle sticks across}
  3. Set aside to let it dry completely. Repeat for each friend you want to make.
  4. When dry enough, go ahead and paint your newly made popsicle stick shape completely brown. Set aside.
  5. Go ahead and also paint your TWO mini clothespins completely brown as well. Set those aside.
  6. Now grab your printable and choice of coloring materials.
  7. Color in ONE of the monkey head designs and trim it out.
  8. Go ahead and glue on the wiggle eyes.
  9. When done, set it aside for now.
  10. Now grab your YELLOW cardstock paper and black marker.
  11. Cut out a paper banana shape and color in the tips with the marker.
  12. Now this step is CRUCIAL. Take your TWO painted mini clothespins and pinch them around the banana shape to look like hands/arm holding it.
  13. Go ahead and hot glue the combined piece you just made, to the center of the painted popsicle stick shape.
  14. To finish off the Popsicle Stick Monkey craft, hot glue your pipe cleaner tail to the back of the popsicle stick shape and finally the cardstock piece to his face.
  15. Then let it dry completely before displaying proudly!!!

Popsicle Stick Monkey Craft Idea For Kids

Here’s your checklist of supplies to bring this craft to life:

  • 3 Jumbo Popsicle Sticks
  • 2 Mini Popsicle Sticks
  • 2 Mini Clothespins
  • 1 Pipe Cleaners
  • Craft Paint
  • Cardstock Paper
  • Free Printable - Landing Page
  • 2 Small Wiggle Eyes
  • 1 Hot Glue Gun - adult supervision required
  • 1 Craft Scissors
  • Sharpie Markers

Prepare your creative haven by laying down a protective cover before the crafting magic begins!

Directions: 
Prevent your screen from going dark

  • First get the glue gun hot and ready!
  • Assemble the base of your monkey friend by gluing THREE jumbo popsicle sticks and TWO mini popsicle sticks together to look like a fence {3 next to each other and the mini popsicle sticks across}
  • Set aside to let it dry completely. Repeat for each friend you want to make.
  • When dry enough, go ahead and paint your newly made popsicle stick shape completely brown. Set aside.
  • Go ahead and also paint your TWO mini clothespins completely brown as well. Set aside.
  • Now grab your light brown cardstock. Cut out a large oval piece for the nose/mouth of the monkey. Use the black Sharpie marker to draw on a smile on the paper piece.
  • Before you put away the Sharpie marker, take your brown pipe cleaner and bend/twist it around the Sharpie marker to create a "curled" tail for the monkey. Set aside the pipe cleaner tail.
  • Now this step is CRUCIAL. Take your TWO painted mini clothespins and pinch them around a banana shape cutout to look like hands/arm holding it.
  • Go ahead and hot glue the combined piece you just made, to the center of the painted popsicle stick shape.
  • To finish off the Popsicle Stick Monkey craft, hot glue your pipe cleaner tail to the back of the popsicle stick shape and finally the cardstock piece to his face.
  • Then let it dry completely before displaying proudly!!!
