More times than not, our book choices these days are solely based off of the titles.
Once a month, when the scholastic book order form comes home from school, I get online and search their site for the “kookiest” or just plain clever book titles that I know will peak the interest of my son.
Hence – how this Paper Plate Garbage Truck craft was born and inspired by the book “I Stink” by Kate and Jim McMullan.
For fans of Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site and Steam Train, Dream Train comes a noisy addition to the hilarious read-aloud series from Kate and Jim McMullan, the popular creators of I’m Bad! and I’m Dirty!
“Know what I do at night while you’re asleep? Eat your trash, that’s what!”
Trending Right Now:With ten wide tires, one really big appetite, and an even bigger smell, this garbage truck’s got it all. His job? Eating your garbage and loving every stinky second of it! And you thought nighttime was just for sleeping.
This book gets some really good belly giggles out of my son AND since the main character that wheels {because BIG wheels is ALL he talks about these days} it seemed only fitting that we add it to our book collection AND make a craft because of it!
Anyways – long story short, I hope this quick garbage truck themed craft idea inspires you to not only get crafty with your little one but also get the book as well! Happy crafting, my friends!!! #gluedtomycrafts
Paper Plate Garbage Truck Supplies:
* Large Paper Plate
* Green Craft Paint
* Paint Brushes
* White/Black Cardstock
* School Glue
* Kid Friendly Scissors
* Hand-Held Stapler
Directions:
* First cut your paper plate in half. This will give you TWO garbage trucks. Set one aside and save the other for a rainy day.
* Cut out a small section on one side of the paper plate half to make a more defined hood for the truck.
* Now take your craft paint and have children paint their paper plate piece completely green.
* When they are done with that, set aside to let it dry completely while you trim out the other truck features from your cardstock {think tires, windows, lights etc}
* To finish off the Paper Plate Garbage Truck kid craft idea – simply staple the finished cardstock pieces in their designated spots. Have children add other embellishments to really make it their own!
* Then display proudly!
