Paper Bag Wizard Puppet

Wizard Paper Bag Puppet

Today’s Lunch Sack Wizard Puppet tutorial is something I’m building off of from the handprint wizard tutorial that went live on our website a few days ago. In fact, I’m actually reusing the same free hat printable from that particular post {so if you downloaded it before, you are well on your way to recreating today’s idea as well!}

I’ve taken the basic framework of our past paper bag craft ideas but this time I added the wizard hat and a white handprint beard to bring it to life! And as always – it’s super easy for any skill level to recreate with basic craft supplies you probably have on hand right now!

So enough chit chat from this gal behind the computer screen…. please be inspired by our latest & greatest wizard craft tutorial. You can find EVERYTHING you need to know below, along with the free hat printable to get you started even faster!

Happy crafting my friends! Don’t forget to share pictures of your paper bag gnome wizard creations with us! You can ALWAYS tag us on Instagram for easy sharing! I can’t wait to see what you make with your young crafter today! #gluedtomycrafts

Paper Bag Wizard Puppet

Turn a paper bag into a wizard puppet with this easy craft idea for kids! This is a great activity for celebrating Harry Potter’s birthday or any other day that you want to have some magical fun.

Craft Supplies:

  • Brown Paper Bag
  • Craft Paint
  • Small Paper Plate
  • Small Paint Brush
  • Pencil
  • Hat Printable – on our landing page
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Blue Cardstock Paper
  • Brown Cardstock Paper
  • Craft Scissors
  • School Glue or Glue Stick
  • Gold Star Stickers

You can find ALL our favorite craft supplies via our AMAZON SHOP link!

Directions:

  • First things first – lay the paper bag on a flat surface, with the bottom flap facing you. Just envision that the smaller rectangle area is the face and the larger portion is his body.
  • Now grab your BLUE craft paint and squirt a small amount on the paper plate.
  • Use the paint brush to paint the LARGER part of the paper bag completely blue. This will be his clothing/body.
  • When done painting, set aside the paper bag till later.
  • Now grab your wizard hat printable, that you printed on blue cardstock paper, along with the scissors.
  • Trim out the hat design and discard excess paper.
  • Go ahead and add star stickers all over the cutout.
  • Set it aside.
  • Now grab your sheet of white cardstock paper, as well as a pencil.
  • Trace BOTH of your hands and trim them out. This is now the wizard’s beard.
  • Next up – cut out a small oval for the nose out of the remaining cardstock paper.
  • Now we are ready to finish up the wizard lunch sack puppet craft. Grab your painted paper bag, all the paper pieces and your choice of adhesive.
  • Go ahead and start off by gluing the handprint beard cutouts, in place, right on the fold of the paper bag. You will want the fingertips facing outward.
  • Follow that up with the blue hat and then the brown nose on top of that.
  • And that’s it on this Paper Bag Wizard craft! Go ahead and add any other embellishments before you display/play with him proudly for all to see!
  • BTW – just gently stick your hand inside the decorated brown paper bag to make it into a puppet!

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use.
