Paper & Chalk Valentine Lion Art Project For Kids Paper & Chalk Valentine Lion Art Project For Kids

Looking for a fun and easy kid craft idea? This paper and chalk lion is perfect for Valentine’s Day!

Craft Supplies:

  • Free Blank Lion Face Printable {grab the free file on box.com}
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Color Printer
  • Pink, Red or Purple Crayons {or markers}
  • Kid Friendly Paper Craft Scissors
  • Dark Colored Construction Paper – think gray, purple or black
  • Pink, Purple, Red Sidewalk Chalk
  • Baby Wipes
  • Glue Stick or Tape Runner Adhesive
  • optional embellishments – small heart stickers and bows

Directions:

  • First things first – grab our free lion face printable, listed above in the supply list.
  • Next, go ahead and find it on your computer, right click and print the file on a single sheet of white cardstock. You only need ONE printable per lion craft. Print as many as you like but only use our file for personal use please.
  • Now that you have the printable, go ahead and color in the lion face however you like. I highly encourage shades of pink, purple or red for the Valentine’s Day theme.
  • When done coloring in the printable, use the scissors to trim out the lion head.
  • Discard the leftover cardstock paper and set aside the paper piece lion head till later.
  • Now grab a single sheet of dark colored cardstock and your various pieces of chalk.
  • Make several lines going outward from the center of the paper {see our image for example} to make the lion’s mane. Add as many lines and colors that you like. You want it to be nice and “fluffy” though.
  • Use baby wipes to clean off excess chalk from fingers and hands.
  • When done with the chalk, go ahead and grab your lion head cutout & glue stick.
  • Glue the lion head to the center of your chalk art design you just made.
  • Add any other embellishments you see fit {like some small heart stickers and pretty bow on the head!}
  • Then display proudly for all to see!

Customize It:

  • Instead of printing the free lion face file on white cardstock, swap it out for pink, red or purple colored paper and take out the “coloring in” step listed above.
  • Did you know you can dip your chalk in water to make the colors more vibrant on your paper? Yup! Just set a small dish with tap water on the table, dip the chalk in it for a few seconds and then draw on the paper the same way as before. Repeat, over and over, again and let the construction paper dry completely before adhering the lion head to the center.
  • What if you don’t have a printer? No worries! You can always hand-draw something on paper and go from there. This will really open up those creative juices and I highly encourage it!

Lion Jokes:

  • What happened when the lion ate the clown? He felt funny.
  • What do you call a lioness wearing a dress with flowers on it? A dandy lion
  • How do lions like to pass the time? By LION around.
