Take your crafting to the next level with popsicle sticks and create your own mini food truck wonders. Let your imagination run wild and enjoy the process!

Craft Supplies:

Before getting started, make sure you have these items handy. Most of these materials can be found in any craft store, or you might already have them at home!

  • Regular Popsicle Sticks – 12 per craft
  • School Glue
  • Paper Plate
  • Craft Paint
  • Paint Brushes
  • Cardstock Paper
  • Scissors
  • Markers
  • Food Themed Toothpicks
  • Washi Tape or Glue Gun

Once you have everything gathered, it’s time to bring your popsicle stick food truck to life!

Directions:

  • First grab THIRTEEN popsicle sticks {you need 13 per food truck craft.}
  • Lay EIGHT popsicle sticks next to each other, one by one, on a flat surface.
  • Now grab the remaining popsicle sticks and glue them the other direction to create a truck shape {see our images for an example.}
  • Set aside to let it dry a bit. Repeat for each truck you want to make.
  • While those are drying, grab all your cardstock paper and scissors.
  • Cut out embellishments for your food truck {like two wheels, a large rectangle window for the truck, the front light etc.}
  • Use the Sharpies markers to draw in a pendant banner in the window piece {see our pictures for an example.}
  • Set all these aside when done.
  • Once the popsicle stick shape is dry enough, go ahead and paint it with your craft paint.
  • To finish off the Popsicle Stick Food Truck, glue the cardstock pieces you recently made onto the popsicle stick shape.
  • Then use a small piece of washi tape {or a little bit of hot glue if working with older children} to attach the food themed toothpick to the back of the truck.
  • Add other embellishments you see fit.
  • Set it aside to let it dry completely.
  • When it’s all done and dry, display it or play with proudly!

For an extra touch, use string or yarn to add a hanging sign to the window. You can also glue glitter or sequins around the truck for a sparkle-filled design.

Tips for Crafting with Kids:

If you’re crafting with younger children, follow these tips to make the process smoother:

  • Pre-cut smaller pieces: Cut the papers, windows, or roof sections beforehand to make it easier for kids to assemble.
  • Supervise the glue: Craft glue can get messy! Teach kids the “dot, not a lot” glue technique or assist them with a hot glue gun as needed.
  • Encourage their creativity: Give them full freedom to choose colors, themes, and decorations. There’s no “right” way to design a food truck!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use. Following these guidelines will ensure that crafts remain fun, creative, and, most importantly, safe for everyone involved!
