Pool Lounging Friend Craft Idea

Did you see my food truck post that went live earlier today?

Well… in the beginning of that particular post, I mentioned how important self-care was and finding inspiration ANYWHERE. I truly believe that Glued To My Crafts has really helped me {and maybe even you} look at things A LOT differently. I mean, hello?! Yesterday I was at Target and toothpicks from the dollar bins inspired me. Not many people can say that!

I know I have become a broken record these past few years but I really do strive to come up with tutorials that are not only outside the box but unique, as well! I guarantee there is nothing like today’s post out there {right now} and if you make this for a crowd of kids, they are going to LOVE it!

Anyways – I was at Michaels earlier today {story of my life!} and I found some pool themed stickers that got my wheels spinning. One thing lead to another and somehow I started thinking about my popular Popsicle Stick Ballerina tutorial from a few years back.

After walking the aisles and becoming DETERMINED to make something happen with this thought process, I rushed home and here I am with this popsicle stick pool lounging friends tutorial. Yes – my brain is all over the place and this is just a tidbit of it!

These friends are “floating” with their cupcake liner rafts, in a cardstock pool and they have custom bathing suits, thanks to some awesome Sharpie markers I had on hand. I can’t stress this enough, this is an EASY kid craft idea that is perfect for summer fun. You are going to want to bookmark this creative idea ASAP!

Now are you ready to “float around” with these friends as well? Find all the details below!

Happy crafting and don’t forget to share those pictures with me! You can find me on Facebook and Instagram these days, for easy tagging. Seriously – it makes my day, keeps me tickin’ and inspires me to keep sharing these unique craft tutorials with you all! #gluedtomycrafts

Craft Supplies:

  • Jumbo Popsicle Sticks – 1 per craft
  • Sharpie Markers or Paint Pens
  • Tan Pipe Cleaners
  • Blue Cardstock Paper
  • Large Cupcake Liners
  • School Glue or Glue Stick

Directions:

  • First things first -we are going to decorate our popsicle stick friends. You only need ONE jumbo popsicle stick per craft.
  • Use the Sharpie markers to draw on faces, some hair, a bathing suit etc. Add details and really customize it!
  • Once done decorating the popsicle stick, go ahead and grab ONE tan pipe cleaner.
  • Curl it around the center of your decorated popsicle stick and bend it upward to look like arms.
  • Set aside your newly made friend.
  • Now grab your blue cardstock and scissors.
  • Fold your paper in half, open it back up and cut it straight up the center to make two pieces.
  • Reserve one piece for today’s craft and save the other for a rainy day.
  • Next grab your cupcake liner. Flatten it with your hands and cut out a small circle from the center of it.
  • Go ahead and glue the “pool float” to the center of your blue cardstock.
  • To finish the popsicle stick pool friends, glue your decorated friend pieces to the center of the paper and cupcake liner float. You want it to look like she is floating and relaxing with her arms up.
  • At this point you can also add other embellishments {like fun pool themed stickers, glitter, rhinestones} that you see fit to really make it your own.
  • Then display your summer masterpiece proudly for all to see!
