Campfire Craft Using Chalk

I just can’t stop with the chalk art craft ideas! Every time I think I’m going to retire my box of chalk into my craft stash, I come up with ANOTHER idea to share with you all on Glued To My Crafts.

This time my latest “chalk on paper” craft idea, is for the summer and camping season we are currently in. Today we are building our own campfires that can be brought indoors with no problems. You can also pair this idea with some indoor s’mores treats afterwards, to really tie it all together.

To complete our super fun campfire craft, you will only need a few pieces of chalk, dark colored construction paper and a popsicle stick with cotton balls for the smore element. That’s it! We are talking CENTS to complete it!

Did I mention even adults can participate on this one?! Plus no two campfire craft creations will be the same {just like the real deal!}

So what are we waiting for?! All the details can be found below. Although I don’t have a free printable like my past chalk art tutorials, this one is really easy to start on your own and complete just as fast. Promise!

So don’t let the crafty “fire” burn out on this one. Bookmark this very post and later this week, make some colorful “one-of-a-kind” chalk art campfires with your child. Then show off those creations, with pride, with us! We love seeing those pics so tag them with #gluedtomycrafts in the description for us to see!

Happy crafting, my dear friends! I can’t wait to see your paper campfire creations! Be sure to tag us on Facebook or Instagram if you decide to give this tutorial a try today!

All you need is some paper, chalk and a few simple supplies to make this adorable campfire. Plus, it’s the perfect addition to your next backyard camping party!

Craft Supplies:

  • Brown Construction Paper
  • Black Construction Paper
  • Craft Scissors
  • School Glue or Glue Stick
  • Red Sidewalk Chalk
  • Orange Sidewalk Chalk
  • Jumbo Popsicle Stick
  • White Cotton Balls
  • Baby Wipes

Directions:

  • First things first – grab your brown construction paper and scissors.
  • Cut out TWO long 1″ inch wide strips for the campfire logs.
  • Grab your black construction paper.
  • Lay the brown paper strips on the black paper. Trim them, so your logs fit ON your black paper.
  • Now glue down them down, near the bottom of the black paper, to create the logs. You will want them in an “x” shape.
  • Now envision the flames.
  • Take your orange and red chalk & make several lines coming from the logs. Add as many or as little as you like.
  • When done, use baby wipes to clean off your fingers.
  • Next grab your jumbo popsicle stick and a few cotton balls.
  • Glue them both in place on the black paper to give the look of someone holding their “smores” over the flame.
  • Add any other embellishments you see fit {maybe some glitter or some star stickers for a night sky.}
  • Then display your custom one-of-a-kind paper art campfire piece proudly for all to see!

Customize It:

Did you know you can dip your chalk in water to make the colors more vibrant on your paper? Yup! Just set a small dish with tap water on the table, dip the chalk in it for a few seconds and then draw on the paper the same way as before.
