He may have spikes but he’s not pokey or scary at all to recreate! In fact, I think he’s super cute and can be slipped in a scrapbook for safekeeping for years to come!

Hedgehog Craft w/Paper Handprint Cutouts

This past week my son and I have gotten in LOTS of craft time together after school {my husband is away for work overseas} and we have been busy passing the time coming up with new ideas, left and right!

I can’t wait to share these AMAZING things with you all… but till then I’m super excited to share this Paper Handprint Hedgehog craft tutorial with you all today!

With the heart face printable I’ve provided in this post below, you are going to add a few handprint cutouts to make him “spiky” with ease! This heart shaped hedgehog craft is also great as decoration for both home and in the classroom!

It’s so easy! It’s just matter of printing, cutting and assembling. No special tools or skills needed for this adorable hedgehog craft. Just paper, stapler, crayons and scissors – that’s it! You probably have these things in your home, so why delay the crafty goodness?!

Paper Handprint Hedgehog - Kid Craft Idea

Craft Supplies:

  • Free Heart Face Hedgehog Printable – located on box.com
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Color Printer
  • Kid Friendly Paper Scissors
  • Crayons and/or Markers
  • Pencil
  • Brown/Kraft Colored Cardstock Paper
  • Hand-Held Office Stapler
  • optional materials – large brown pom pom & glue

Directions:

  • First things first – print the FREE printable listed above, on one sheet of white cardstock. You only need one heart shaped face printable per craft. Print as many as you like!
  • Have children decorate the inside of their hedgehog face printable however they like with crayons and/or markers.
  • Once done, use scissors to trim out the head. Discard the excess paper. Set aside your piece.
  • Grab your colored cardstock, pencil and scissors. Trace your child’s hand several times on the paper with the pencil.
  • Trim out each handprint for the craft. Depending on the size of your child’s hand, you may need 6-10 handprint cutouts.
  • Now grab the stapler and all your paper pieces, along with the decorated heart piece.
  • Staple the handprints to the back of the hedgehog shape, making the fingers peek out from behind.
  • If need be – trace/cut out more handprints to really make his spikes “full.”
  • Then if desired – glue a large pom pom in place on his nose {but you can totally skip that step if you like!}
  • And that’s it! Add other embellishments you see fit to your Paper Handprint Hedgehog before displaying it proudly for all to see!

Tools:

  • Color Printer
  • Kid Friendly Paper Scissors
  • Crayons and/or Markers
  • Pencil
