Colorful popsicle stick hedgehog puppet craft for kids with fall-themed decorations

Let’s get crafty! With a few simple supplies, you can make this adorable fall hedgehog puppet that will have the entire family smiling.

Craft Supplies:

Before you begin, gather these materials:

  • Jumbo Popsicle Sticks – 3 per craft
  • Mini Popsicle Sticks – 2 per craft
  • Mini Clothespins – 2 per craft
  • Low Temp Glue Gun
  • Brown Cardstock Paper
  • Black Marker
  • Small Black Pom Pom
  • Embellishments

Having all supplies ready will streamline the crafting process. It’s also a good idea to cover your work area with newspaper to protect surfaces during craft time.

Directions:

  • First get the glue gun hot and ready!
  • Assemble the base of your hedgehog fall friend by gluing THREE jumbo popsicle sticks and TWO mini popsicle sticks together to look like a fence {3 next to each other and the mini popsicle sticks across}
  • Set aside to let it dry completely. Repeat for each hedgehog friend you want to make.
  • Now grab ALL your sheets of cardstock paper and scissors.
  • Cut out a large heart shaped head, the spikes for the hedgehog’s back and two small heart shaped feet. See our pictures for an example.
  • Now go ahead and glue ALL the paper pieces to the popsicle stick shape you made earlier.
  • At this point in time you should also use the black Sharpie marker to draw on eyes and hot glue the pom pom nose in place.
  • This next step is CRUCIAL. Take your TWO mini clothespins and pinch them {one on each side} around the decorative leaf and floral pumpkin pick, to look like the hedgehog’s hands/arms are holding it.
  • Go ahead and hot glue the combined piece you just made, to the center of the painted popsicle stick shape.
  • To finish off the Popsicle Stick Fall Hedgehog Friend craft, add any other embellishments you see fit.
  • Then let it dry completely before displaying proudly!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use. Following these guidelines will ensure that crafts remain fun, creative, and, most importantly, safe for everyone involved!
