The other day, I was scrolling through the aisles of my local Michaels store {strictly for blog research – nothing was bought and I’m still on track for my New Year’s Resolution!} when inspiration hit me.
I saw that Michaels had some donut foam stickers with adorable faces on them. I decided to take their particular idea but give it new life with a crafty spin to share on Glued To My Crafts.
So you better believe, it was almost like I screamed “to the bat cave!” {in my case, to my craft room} and went to work!!!
Paper plates are one of my favorite craft mediums to include in my kid craft tutorials {I gladly wear the “paper plate queen” title – thank you very much!}
Plain white paper plates are easy to find pretty much everywhere. They are inexpensive and so versatile because of the circular shape they come in. Not to mention, the thickness of them is great as well!
So friends…. here we are today with my Paper Plate Donut Friends tutorial! I hope it sparks some creativity within you and your child today! Remember – although this is being posted for the upcoming Vday holiday, these friendly “donuts” can be recreated ALL year long! No two pieces will be alike and they really can make your child’s personality shine as well!
Happy crafting, my friends!!! #gluedtomycrafts
Paper Plate Donut Friends Supplies:
* Large Paper Plates {one per friend}
* Scissors
* Brown Craft Paint
* Paint Brush
* School Glue or Colored Glitter Glue
* Glitter
* Wiggle Eyes
* Black Sharpie Marker
* Brown Pipe Cleaners {two per craft}
* Stapler
optional – small decorative hair bows
Directions:
* Using your scissors, cut out a circle from the center of the paper plate. This is your donut friend’s body. Discard the inner circle.
* Squirt some paint on the paper plate and have your child paint it completely brown.
* Next take your choice of glue and have children paint “frosting” near the center rim of the donut.
* Have them sprinkle glitter on top.
* Shake off excess glitter and set aside a bit to let it dry completely.
* Now take your pipe cleaners. Cut one in half for the arms. Take the other and fold it for the legs. Staple those to the paper plate.
* To finish it off, draw on a smile with the black Sharpie marker and glue on the wiggle eyes for it to see.
* Then display your Paper Plate Donut Friends for all to see!
