Popsicle Stick & Conversation Heart Valentine Mermaid Tails

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and what better way to spread love and creativity than with a mermaid themed craft!

This fun and easy DIY project will have your little ones swimming with excitement as they create their very own mermaid tails using colorful conversation hearts and wood popsicle sticks.

Not only is this activity perfect for children of all ages, but it also incorporates a festive Valentine’s Day twist that is sure to be loved by all.

So grab your supplies and get ready to dive into an ocean of imagination as we explore how to make these adorable mermaid tails within minutes!

Popsicle Stick & Conversation Heart Valentine Mermaid Tails

We have a mermaid tail craft idea that will not only spark children’s imagination but also incorporate those iconic conversation hearts candies that are synonymous with Valentine’s Day!

Craft Supplies:

  • Jumbo Popsicle Sticks – 3 per craft
  • Mini Popsicle Sticks – 2 per craft
  • Conversation Candy Hearts
  • School Glue
  • Green Craft Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Small Paper Plate
  • Scissors
  • Cardstock Paper
  • Black Marker

Directions:

  • First glue your popsicle sticks together to look like a fence {3 jumbo next to each other with two mini across}
  • Set aside to let it dry completely. Repeat for each mermaid tail you want to make this Valentine’s Day.
  • Next up – squirt some green craft paint on the paper plate.
  • Grab the paint brush and paint the popsicle stick shape completely green.
  • Now you are ready for the scales! Simply have children glue conversation hearts ALL over their newly painted popsicle stick shape. They can make a pattern with the colors of hearts or just go at random. The choice is theirs!
  • While they are working on that, grab the cardstock paper and the scissors.
  • Cut out two petal shaped “mermaid tails” for the bottom of the piece.
  • Use the black marker to draw on “scales” and give each one dimension.
  • To finish off your Conversation Heart Mermaid Tails – have children glue on their cardstock pieces, as well as any other embellishments to the popsicle stick shape.
  • Then let it all sit aside to let it dry completely before displaying proudly!!!

Here’s your checklist of supplies to bring this craft to life:

  • 3 Jumbo Popsicle Sticks

  • Craft Paint
  • Conversation Candy Hearts
  • Cardstock Paper
  • School Glue
  • Foam Paint Brush
  • Small Paper Plate
  • Scissors

Prepare your creative haven by laying down a protective cover before the crafting magic begins!

Directions:
