It’s a super CLEVER way to “wrap” up some building blocks for a small gift you can stuff in a Christmas stocking.

Snowman Construction Block Jar Gift Idea For Christmas
Hi friends! Are you looking for a clever gift idea for your child’s Christmas stocking this year?
Maybe you are looking for something small to gift to the neighborhood kids or your child’s classmates?
Do you want something they can actually “play” with versus flimsy cheap toys or candy?
Then look no further because today’s Building Block Snowman Jar tutorial is the easiest DIY gift idea you can make, even during the most hectic time of year! All you need is a small plastic jar with a lid, some white building block pieces and a little bit of Cricut vinyl to tie it all together. That’s it – super easy and surprisingly really cheap if you hit up your local Dollar Tree!
On that note, regardless of how much you spend on this gift idea this year, I’m sure if the lucky receiver is just like my son, they are going to love the inside of the jar, as much as the super cute snowman presentation you will pull off within minutes!

The Snowman Brick Jar Supplies:
- First things first – where to get the white building brick pieces. Surprisingly I found my solid white building bricks at my local Dollar Tree store recently, in their toy aisle. Each bag has 48 pieces {with various small and large pieces inside} and for a buck, you seriously can’t beat that!
- I do have to warn that they are from an off-brand building block company BUT surprisingly they do work well and click together nicely with the branded Lego stuff {this is tried and true in our home. We really can’t see a difference between the two!}
- Another option is to hit up a local Lego store in your area for your white blocks {usually they are found in a mall.} These stores typically have a large back wall by the registers, with HUGE bins of Lego pieces where you can buy EXACTLY the bricks you need. You just pile the blocks you want to pull {like a buffet} into a provided container from the store and the cashier will charge you by weight.
- Regardless of where you find your white bricks {maybe try Amazon as well} you will need a good amount to fill your jar. I put two bags from Dollar Tree in my snowman jar. You might need more or less depending on the size of your container.
- Which leads me to my second supply needed – where to find your jars. Again, I found my small plastic jar at Dollar Tree in their front holiday aisle. For a buck, I couldn’t beat it! They even had some that were exactly the same but they had hooked on the top to turn them into ornaments {super clever!}
- If you can’t find the exact plastic container I used, you can use a small mason jar or maybe even recycle an old pickle jar from the recyling bin. Just keep in mind how many Lego building blocks you would need to fill the jar up with and the outside surface of the jar needs to be completely clean & flat enough for your vinyl cutouts. You want to be able to see the white bricks inside.
- Now the last supply – the ADHESIVE VINYL. I used my Cricut maker to make my snowman facial embellishments from the vinyl. You can of course skip the Cricut maker and cut your pieces by hand using scissors or use a different type of electric cutting machine.
- I also have to add that I used leftover orange & black vinyl I already had in my craft stash for mine. You don’t need a whole bunch of either {unless you are making a TON of these jars at once} so don’t need feel like you need to run out a buy a large roll of each, if you are only doing one jar. In fact – I highly discourage you to buy anything if you don’t have any on hand. If you don’t have any vinyl for this DIY, simply pull out the craft paint with paint brushes or some Sharpie paint pens instead. YOU CAN MAKE IT HAPPEN without vinyl – promise! I should also add the removable or permanent vinyl would work for this project!
- An optional supply – for an extra fun look, you can grab some ribbon from your craft stash for a scarf for the snowman. I’ll touch base on that later, towards the last step!

Now that we have the supplies, it’s time to assemble the building block snowman jar!
- Go ahead and fill your jar up with the white brick pieces until it’s completely full. Place the lid back on and twist it closed.
- You got the jar and it’s full. Now it’s time for the snowman facial embellishments! Depending on the jar, you might have to turn it upside down {like I did} to give it a “better” snowman look. So first things first – decide how you want to add the face and turn the jar the correct way. Start envisioning where you are going to place your snowman design.
- Depending on the size of your jar, that’s how big you should cut out your vinyl pieces. If you are familiar with your Cricut cutting machine, you will know what to do 😉 I made basic circles for the eyes and mouth using my Cricut. The orange triangle piece I cut by hand, using my scissors.
- Go ahead and adhere them to your jar, in the correct spots. Because my vinyl cutouts were so small, I didn’t even need to use transfer tape. I just peeled it off and placed it like a sticker on the jar. Easy peasy!
- If not using adhesive vinyl, use your choice of craft paint to make small dots for the eyes and mouth & then a painted triangle from the orange, for the nose. Easy peasy! Of course, when working with paint, allow it to dry completely before moving on.
- And that’s it – you now have a completed toy brick Snowman Jar gift! If you desired, you can tie some ribbon around the top {or in my case, the bottom} of the jar to give the look of a scarf on the snowman. Just don’t tie it off like a bow. Let the ribbon flow freely in the air!
- Then gift it away and make the lucky receiver smile on Christmas day! That’s it! Again, I repeat – easy peasy, even for the those who call themselves NOT CRAFTY! If you can envision it, you can make it!
- So I’ll let you get to it – go grab those supplies and “build” your own snowman today!
