Thumbprint Flower Poem Craft

Today’s Thumbprint Paper Flower and Mother’s Day Poem kid craft idea is super easy to make within minutes and it’s relatively inexpensive too. If you have a printer in your home – you are well on your way to pulling this DIY activity together and helping your child create a great piece to gift to someone special on Mother’s Day.

In this post, I’ve included a FREE simple flower printable template that has a sweet poem in the center of it, to tie the theme together. And because I’ve done most of the work for you, all you need to do is print the file in color on white cardstock paper, grab some of your favorite colored washable ink pads and have children decorate the flower design with their thumbprint prints.

Then when those steps are done, cut the flower out and attach to a simple jumbo popsicle stick to “grow” the flower. It’s so simple, you have NO excuse NOT to pull it together!

“I made something special, just for you.
I got a little crafty and this is what I grew.
It’s now a flower, strong and true,
A symbol of my love, made for you!
Happy Mother’s Day!

So let’s get to it! Grab the freebie file below and get to work on helping your child {or children!} create this adorable “I made something special, just for you” themed craft today. I hope you enjoy watching your child make it today! Happy crafting my friends!

  • Baby Wipes
  • Scissors

  • Have children press their thumb {or any other finger} on the ink pad, then on the printable in the petals of the flowers.
  • Repeat till each flower petal is completely “colored” in and you have the look you like.
  • Use the baby wipes to remove excess ink from fingers.
  • Next up, go ahead and use your choice of medium to color in the center of your flower. We used a yellow crayon on ours.
  • When done decorating your flower, go ahead and use the paper scissors to trim out the flower. Set aside.
  • Grab your jumbo popsicle stick.
  • Again, using your choice of medium, color the popsicle stick to give it the look of a stem. We used a green crayon.
  • To finish off the Paper Mother’s Day Flower, adhere the flower cutout to the jumbo popsicle.
  • Then display and/or gift away proudly!
