Free Keepsake Printable - You Are My Sunshine

Not only will your child have fun creating this one-of-a-kind sunshine masterpiece, but they’ll also be proud of knowing they made something special with their own tiny hands.

Craft Supplies:

  • Free Sunshine Printable – on our landing page
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Paper Trimmer or Scissors
  • Blue Cardstock Paper
  • Glue Stick
  • Washable Yellow Craft Paint
  • Large, Foam Paint Brush
  • Small Paper Plate
  • Baby Wipes

Directions:

  • First download the “you are my sunshine” printable, listed above.
  • Print it in color on a single sheet of white cardstock.
  • Depending on your printer, you might have to “trim” the printable slightly around the edges to remove unwanted white space. You can do this with some scissors or a paper trimmer.
  • Now that the printable got slightly smaller, go ahead and glue it to a single sheet of blue cardstock. This gives it a nice framed look, as well as adding some thickness to the craft.
  • Next up, grab your yellow craft paint and paper plate.
  • Squirt some paint on the paper plate. One at a time {each hand} paint your child’s hand completely yellow and press it where the sun is in the printable. You will want the fingertips to go outward, to look like rays of light coming from the sun.
  • Repeat for the other hand.
  • Use the baby wipes to remove paint from hands.
  • Set aside to let it dry completely.
  • Add other embellishments you see fit {like maybe drawing in some clouds with a blue crayon} as well as having children sign the bottom.
  • Then display/gift away your child’s “you are my sunshine” print proudly!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use. Following these guidelines will ensure that crafts remain fun, creative, and, most importantly, safe for everyone involved!
