Today’s Paper Bowl Valentine Puppy and Kitty kid craft idea is actually inspired by some classroom valentines I saw in the most recent catalog from Paper Source {seriously love that store!}
As I was flipping through the pages {in came in the mail yesterday} I was instantly inspired to take their idea but make it more KID FRIENDLY! #gluedtomycrafts
Paper Bowl Valentine Puppy and Kitty – Kid Craft Idea For Valentine’s Day
Although I made my valentine puppy and kitty with small paper bowls, this idea would probably also work with small paper plates.
Since I didn’t have any smaller paper plates on hand in my craft supplies {those New Years resolutions are still going strong about not buying new stuff!} I decided to go this direction. I kinda like the “3-d” look from the paper bowl but you can of course change this idea up as need be <— that’s what I love about my tutorials!
Anyways – the full step-by-step directions for these adorable pieces are below! I hope you get some crafty Valentine DIYs knocked out this weekend with the kids or perhaps maybe you decide to bring this to a Valentine’s Day party so more people can love it! Whatever you decide – I hope Glued To My Crafts inspired it!

Paper Bowl Valentine Puppy and Kitty Supplies:
- Small Paper Bowls {one per Valentine’s Day craft}
- Colored Cardstock
- Craft Foam Heart {one per Valentine’s Day craft}
- Craft Paint {any color but think tons of red, pink and purple}
- Paint Brushes
- Markers
- Handheld Office Stapler
- Basic Craft Scissors
- School Glue
- Large Wiggle Eyes {two per Valentine’s Day craft}
Directions:
- First, if you like, paint the back side of your paper bowl however you like {like brown for a puppy!}
- Set aside to let it dry a bit.
- While that is drying, cut out some ears, half-circle paws {two} and optional facial pieces from the colored cardstock.
- Now it’s time to staple the craft foam heart to the paper bowl to give the look of your friend holding it. This might take some tweaking, so I suggest an adult does this step.
- Once the heart is in place, staple/glue the cardstock ears and paws in the designated spots on the paper bowl.
- Finish off your Paper Bowl Valentine Friends by adding embellishments {like wiggle eyes} to give them life and personality.
- Then display proudly for all to see!
