Popsicle Stick Lorax Craft Idea

This yellow and orange Lorax craft is so easy and fun to make with your kids! They’ll love showing off their handprint mustache!

Craft Supplies:

  • Jumbo Popsicle Sticks – 9 per craft
  • School Glue
  • Orange Craft Paint
  • Foam Paint Brush
  • Yellow Cardstock Paper
  • Large Wiggle Eyes – 2 per craft
  • Large Brown Pom Pom – 1 per craft
  • Marker or Pencil
  • Basic Craft Scissors

Directions:

  • First assemble the base of your Lorax by gluing NINE popsicle sticks together to look like a fence {7 next to each and two across} Set aside to let it dry completely.
  • Once dry, have children paint their piece completely completely orange.
  • Again, set aside to let it dry completely.
  • Now grab your orange cardstock and trace your child’s hands on it.
  • Trim out TWO pieces and staple together at the palm of the hands, to create a beard. Don’t forget to cut out some eyebrows out of the remaining cardstock!!!
  • To finish off the Popsicle Stick Lorax, glue your cardstock pieces in place, along with the wiggle eyes and pom pom nose.
  • Then add other embellishments {like glitter for a one-of-a-kind look} and display proudly!!!

Make It Your Own:

  • If you don’t want to do handprint cutouts for the beard {maybe your child is not into it or the cutouts would be too big for the popsicle stick shape} you can ALWAYS hand-cut a simple beard shape out of yellow paper instead!
  • Don’t have a brown pom pom in your craft stash? Use a large brown BUTTON instead.
  • Want to skip the painting step? Try these “already” painted orange popsicle sticks. Less mess but still super fun!
  • My last tip is that you can add magnets or a piece of string to the back of the finished piece, for easy displaying around your home!

Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use.
