Squirrel Keepsake Craft
Today’s Footprint Squirrel tutorial is PERFECT for those who love squirrels as much as we do!
Our latest craft tutorial is also a great keepsake piece that can be treasured for years to come. Just make it with your child and slip it away in a scrapbook album or picture frame for safe keeping!
I could even see people writing punny squirrel sayings around the finished footprint design that say “I’m nuts about you” or “I go nuts for you!” to tie it all together. So many ideas on how to make it your own!
I think my favorite part of this whole squirrel craft idea {and the main reason why I came up with it} is that it pairs nicely with the book “Those Darn Squirrels” by Adam Rubin {have you heard of his adorable children’s book series?!} Because it pairs so nicely with story time, you are sure to have a great time crafting AND reading together as well!
So enough chit chat from me, let’s get SQUIRRELY on this idea! I really do hope this crafty DIY painted footprint craft post inspires you! Find everything you need to know, in the full tutorial below!
Happy crafting my friends!!! Don’t forget to share pictures with us on your various social media sites, by tagging us on Facebook or Instagram. We can’t wait to see your child’s painted footprint design turned squirrel keepsake! #gluedtomycrafts

Looking for a fun craft project to do with your kids? Why not try making this adorable footprint squirrel!
Craft Supplies:
- White Cardstock Paper or Large Blank Canvas
- Washable Brown Craft Paint
- Foam Paint Brush
- Small Paper Plate
- Baby Wipes
- White Tissue Paper Squares
- Wiggle Eyes
- Black Sharpie Marker
- School Glue
- Loose Orange Craft Glitter
Directions:
- First things first – squirt some brown paint on a paper plate.
- Next up – pick a foot. Any foot will do.
- Now use the paint brush to paint the bottom of the foot completely brown, before pressing it down in the center of the white cardstock {or blank canvas.}
- Be sure to wiggle each toe and carefully lift up the foot to reveal the footprint design underneath.
- Use baby wipes to clean off excess paint from their foot and allow the footprint to dry completely.
- Once it’s dry, you are ready for the “squirrel” embellishments! First we painted a long tail, as well as some ears on the footprint with the remaining brown paint on the paper plate.
- Next we added some gold glitter on the squirrel’s tail to give it some texture/dimension.
- This was followed by a few torn white tissue paper squares in the center of the footprint, for the squirrel’s chest.
- To finish off your Footprint Squirrel – glue on some wiggle eyes and draw on a face.
- Then set aside to let it dry completely before displaying proudly!!!
