Simple Pipe Cleaner Fish Game {Busy Bag Idea}

Simple Fish Game Using Pipe Cleaners

It’s the new year and I’m making a resolution to be “simple.” I guess you could call it my “word” of the year. I plan to live by it…

With that being said – I’m planning on sharing more crafts that can be done with simple supplies. From my kid crafts to the adult stuff – it will be more simplified. Several of the crafts I will be sharing will either use recycled items or things that can be bought with a few dollars. I don’t want to break the bank and I know you don’t want to either. Plus – no headache searching stores for the impossible. Simple. Just plain simple.

Today I’m starting with this Pipe Cleaner Fish Game. This game is easy to put together {10 minutes tops} and is a simple “busy bag” idea for toddlers. Slip it in a plastic baggie and carry it in your purse for those moments you need to entertain the wee one.

You can even add some educational lessons like “catch the blue fish” or “catch the matching fish.”

As always – the possibilities are endless with this crafty fish idea! I hope this tutorial inspires you today! #gluedtomycrafts

Simple Pipe Cleaner Fish Game {Busy Bag Idea}

Craft Supplies:

  • Large Magnet – one per fishing rod for the game
  • Wooden Dowel or Stick
  • Colored Pipe Cleaners
  • Blue Craft Felt
  • Colored Yarn
  • Hot Glue Gun

Directions:

  • Take one pipe cleaner and bend in half. Form a circle and twist off the two ends to look like a fish tail. WOW – you now have a fish!
  • Go ahead and repeat this step for ALL of your pipe cleaners to make your fish game pieces.
  • Next, cut off a piece of string. Wrap and hot glue the string around the magnet.
  • Then tie the string to your “fishing” pole.
  • To play the fishing pole game, lay out the blue felt for the water.
  • Place fish on the felt. Ask your child to catch the fish. The metal material in the pipe cleaners will be attracted to the magnet – making it easy to pull up the fish.

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use. Following these guidelines will ensure that crafts remain fun, creative, and, most importantly, safe for everyone involved!
