Outdoor Painting Craft Idea
Happy Monday everyone! Hope you all enjoyed the weekend as much as we did!
For our weekend, we checked out the FREE Lowe’s Kid Workshop and then came home to pizza & movies. We basically took a simple break from life and it felt good. I even took a couple naps – which is really rare for me.
So now that I’m fully rested, I’m ready to get back on the blog wagon!
Today I’m sharing another simple and fun craft you can pull together with items in your home. Not only is this craft cheap & great for toddlers – but I’m sure older kids would love it to. As I told a friend, it’s like playing a guitar – but with paint.
Sounds super fun right? Ready to see how we pulled it together? Below is all the crafty details and what you need for this Rubber Band Splat Painting Idea. I really hope you are inspired to give it a try in your backyard today!
Happy crafting, my friends! Please don’t forget to let us know how it turns out, by sharing pictures on our Facebook page! I can’t wait to hear from you and your thoughts! #gluedtomycrafts

CRAFT SUPPLIES:
- Tempera Paint/Finger Paint
- Large Sized Rubber Bands {5-10}
- Construction Paper
- Large Cookie Sheet/Tray
- Outdoor Area or Area That Can Be Wiped Down
- Baby Wipes For Easy Clean Up

DIRECTIONS:
- So the first thing you want to do, is put your rubber bands around the cookie sheet/tray. {I suggest adults doing this!}
- You can space them really close to each other or leave huge gaps. Make sure the rubber bands aren’t too tight, but also not too loose. You want to be able to flick your finger on them and hear the “ping.”
- Next slide your construction paper underneath and squirt some paint “on” the rubber bands. You can even squirt some paint on your fingers and rub it all over the rubber paints. As long you have some on the band, this craft should work.
- Before you hand over the tray to your child, make sure you’re in an area that can be cleaned up easily and your child is in clothes that can get messed up. Paint will be flinging with this craft! We choose to be outside to do this.
- To make the paint splat design on the paper, just pull back on each rubber band and let go. Because of the tension, paint will fling and hit the construction paper making a splat design. You can also just “play” the rubber band guitar and see what kind of designs you get.
- Add more paint as need be.
- When done, clean off fingers with a few baby wipes and a quick trip to the sink.
- Then allow the paint to dry completely on the paper, before you display the rubber band artwork proudly for all to see!

The globs of paint are where I squirted some and then rubbed on the rubber bands.
Once you are done with your craft, just cut off your rubber bands to dispose and clean up your tray. Then hang up your splat design to dry. Pretty simple, right?
