Paper Plate Patriotic Butterfly Craft Idea For 4th of July

Celebrate Independence Day with this fun and easy craft project! This patriotic butterfly, made from simple materials, is perfect for kids and adults alike. Let’s get started!

Craft Supplies:

  • White paper plates (1 per butterfly)
  • Red tempera paint or paint stick
  • Blue glitter cardstock paper
  • White pipe cleaner
  • Googly eyes (2 per butterfly)
  • Star stickers (white and silver)
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Stapler

Directions:

  1. Prepare the Wings:

    • Take a white paper plate and cut it in half to create two semi-circles.
    • Using red tempera paint or a paint stick, paint horizontal stripes across each plate half. Let the paint dry completely.
  2. Create the Butterfly Body:

    • Cut an hourglass or elongated peanut shape from blue glitter cardstock. This will be the butterfly’s body.
    • Attach two googly eyes near the top of the body using glue.
    • Thread a white pipe cleaner through a small hole at the top of the body to form antennae. Curl the ends for a whimsical touch.
    • Decorate the body with star stickers, placing them vertically down the center.
  3. Assemble the Butterfly:

    • Position the two painted paper plate halves with their straight edges facing each other to form wings.
    • Staple the wings together at the center.
    • Glue the blue glitter body over the staples to hide them and secure the wings.
  4. Add Final Touches:

    • Use additional stickers or embellishments to enhance the patriotic theme.
    • Once done decorating, display proudly for all to see!
