Treat the BBQ loving dad in your life to the perfect Father’s Day gift!
Craft Supplies:
- Cricut Iron-On Black Vinyl
- Cricut Maker Machine
- Cricut Design Space App
- Standard Grip Adhesive Cutting Mat
- Cricut Fine Point Blade
- Cricut Weeder Pick
- Cricut EasyPress 2 Machine
- Cricut EasyPress Mat
- Cotton Adult Size Apron
- Fabric Craft Paint
- Paint Brushes
- Small Paper Plate
- Baby Wipes
Directions:
- First things first – we are going to cut out our vinyl grill piece using the Cricut Maker. Go ahead and get your machine ready, as well as your app.
- So first – the vinyl grill cutout.
- In your Cricut Design Space app, you are going to go to the mat feature, hit add image and type in “charcoal barbecue” in the search bar. There are several different options to choose from in the app but I went with this #M9FE6D15 design {I was looking for a very basic, one cut design. Feel free to pick something different!}
- I then resized the bbq grill graphic to about 10 inches wide and 11.5″ in height but you can make yours any size you like. I feel like that the size of your cutout will depend on the size of your apron, as well as the size of your child’s handprint flame that they will added later on. You obviously don’t want your grill piece to be too large or too small. Just keep in mind to leave room for the handprint design when planning out your project.
- Now that you have it resized, you are ready to cut. Go ahead and load your mat with the iron-on vinyl and make sure to hit “mirror image” before you hit cut.
- Once the machine is done doing it’s thing, unload the mat, weed the design and pull it off the mat for the next step.
- Next is adhering the vinyl cutout to the apron.
- Place your EasyPress 2 device in it’s stand, plug it into your outlet and press the power up button.
- Set the temperature to the correct temp {my apron was a cotton canvas so I set it for 340} and lay your vinyl in place on the apron. Again you want to make sure you leave room for the handprint element.
- Go ahead and “press” the design to the apron.
- When the vinyl is cool enough, remove the plastic covering to reveal your design underneath.
- Now it’s time for the best part – the paint step! Squirt some orange fabric paint on your paper plate.
- Pick a hand. Paint your child’s hand completely orange and press it down on the apron, where the “flame” will be.
- Lift up their hand and remove excess paint with a baby wipe & a quick trip to the sink.
- For added color {and since we went with a very basic vinyl design} I decided we should paint “in” the empty space on the grill. We did this with a little bit of blue fabric paint and a small paint brus.
- Once you are done with the paint, you are going to set aside your apron, in an undisturbed area, to let it dry completely.
- And that’s it! Once it’s dry, you are ready to either use it on yourself or gift it away proudly!
