Torn Paper & Popsicle Stick Snow Tubing Penguin Craft Idea

Winter is a wonderful time for cozy indoor activities. This torn paper and popsicle stick snow tubing penguin craft is the perfect way to spend a chilly afternoon. It combines simple materials with a lot of creativity, making it a fantastic project for kids.

You get to build a speedy little sled and create an adorable penguin to ride it. Let’s gather our supplies and get ready for some winter fun!

Craft Supplies:

Grab these materials to get started:

  • Jumbo Popsicle Sticks – 1 per craft
  • White Craft Paint
  • Black Craft Paint
  • Small Paint Brush
  • Blue Cardstock Paper
  • White Computer Paper
  • Yellow Cardstock Paper
  • Black Pipe Cleaners – 1 per craft
  • Scissors
  • Large Cupcake Liners – 1 per craft
  • School Glue or Glue Stick
  • Small Wiggle Eyes
  • Embellishments

If you are crafting with young children, please ensure an adult handles or supervises the use of scissors and glue. School glue is a safe, non-toxic option perfect for little hands.

Directions:

Before you begin, lay out some newspaper to protect your working surface from glue and craft paint.

  • Decorate the Penguin: Start by taking one jumbo popsicle stick for each penguin. Paint one side completely with black craft paint. Once dry, use white paint to add a belly in the center.
  • Create the Penguin’s Arms: Wrap a black pipe cleaner around the middle of the painted stick. Bend and curl the ends upward to form arms raised in the air.
  • Set Aside to Dry: Place your decorated penguin aside to let the paint fully dry.
  • Make the Snowy Slope: Tear white computer paper into small pieces. Glue these onto a piece of blue cardstock to form a snowy hill.
  • Craft the Snow Tube: Take a cupcake liner, flatten it, and cut a small circle from the center to create a donut shape. Glue the liner in the center of your snowy hill, where the penguin will slide.
  • Assemble the Scene: Glue your popsicle stick penguin to the center of the cupcake liner snow tube, making sure it looks like the penguin is joyfully sliding down the slope with its arms up.
  • Add Finishing Touches: Cut out a small beak and two feet from yellow paper and glue them onto the penguin. Attach two small wiggle eyes above the beak. Enhance your scene with extra embellishments such as stickers, glitter, or rhinestones if you like.
  • Display Your Craft: Once everything is dry, proudly display your winter penguin masterpiece for everyone to see!
