Handprint Penguin Poem Keepsake

Looking for a fun, creative, and heartfelt craft that kids can enjoy this winter season? Meet the Handprint Penguin Poem Keepsake!

Not only is this a delightful activity to keep little hands busy, but it also creates a cherished memento for parents, caregivers, or even teachers.

Whether you’re crafting with your children at home or running a classroom holiday project, this winter craft idea is sure to inspire creativity and warm hearts with its personal touch.

Craft Supplies:

Before jumping into creating your handprint penguin craft, gather the following materials to ensure a smooth crafting session:

  • Penguin Poem Printable – on our landing page
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Washable BLACK Craft Paint
  • Large, Foam Paint Brush
  • Small Paper Plate
  • Baby Wipes
  • Embellishments

You probably already have most of these at home, which makes this project all the more accessible!

Directions:

Crafting with kids can be messy, but preparation makes all the difference! Cover your workspace with old newspapers or a plastic sheet. Lay out paints, brushes, and materials within easy reach. Be sure to also dress your child in an apron or old clothes since paint can be unpredictable—even washable paint has its limits when it comes to enthusiastic young artists!

  • First print out our free printable, in color, on a single sheet of white cardstock.
  • Grab your craft paint and squirt it on the paper plate.
  • Paint the fingers and palm of your child’s hand completely black and press it in the center of the printable. You will want their fingers pointing down.
  • Use baby wipes and a quick trip to the sink to clean their hand off.
  • After washing up, help your child bring their penguin to life with embellishments, as well as having children sign the bottom.
  • Set aside to let it dry completely.
  • Then display/gift proudly!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use. Following these guidelines will ensure that crafts remain fun, creative, and, most importantly, safe for everyone involved!
