Paper Plate Christmas Fairy House

The Christmas season brings joy, cheer and a special kind of magic. What better way to capture that festive spirit this December than by crafting up your own Paper Plate Christmas Fairy House with your family? It’s an activity that has something for everyone, from the creative minds at heart to those who like making things with their hands.

Not only is it easy enough for all ages – kids, moms, teachers and grandparents alike – but it also requires just a few basic materials found lying around the house. It is sure to leave you grinning from ear-to-ear as you witness the smiles of delight on each face as they proudly display their handiwork!

Craft Supplies:

  • Large Paper Plate
  • Fairy House Printable – on our landing page
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Paper Craft Scissors
  • Green Craft Paint
  • Foam Paint Brush
  • Black Sharpie Marker
  • Red Cardstock Paper
  • White Cotton Balls
  • School Glue
  • Hand-Held Office Stapler
  • Embellishments

Directions:

  • First things first – cut off a small section of your large paper plate to make the bottom of the fairy house flat.
  • Discard the small piece you just cut off.
  • Next up – paint the paper plate completely green {or any other color you like!}
  • Set aside to let it dry completely.
  • Now print out the provided FREE Christmas fairy house printout listed above in the supply list.
  • Print it out the file in color on white cardstock. You only need to print one per craft.
  • Using scissors, trim out each section in the printable you just printed.
  • Now decide which windows you are going to use for your craft {you only need two windows.} There are several different versions of fairies in windows OR you can use the provided blank windows & draw whatever you like inside of them {bonus tip – trim out the center of the blank windows and use your child’s pictures to fill the frames!} Set aside your chosen pieces.
  • Next up – grab the red cardstock.
  • Cut out a long rectangular “chimney” for the fairy house.
  • Draw on the bricks with the black Sharpie marker.
  • Once the paper plate is dry and you have everything cut out that you want to use for your piece, now it’s time to start assembling your Christmas fairy house.
  • Go ahead and glue some cotton ball “snow” on top of the paper plate house, as well as on the chimney {any other places you like!}
  • Finally, glue/staple the other paper embellishments in place on the paper plate.
  • Now add anything else you like for that custom look {like some holiday stickers or glitter!} before displaying proudly!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use. Following these guidelines will ensure that crafts remain fun, creative, and, most importantly, safe for everyone involved!
