Popsicle Stick Soldier Puppet Craft

Create your own “army” with today’s Popsicle Stick Soldier Puppet kid craft idea! #gluedtomycrafts

Popsicle Stick Soldier Puppet - Military Kid Craft

Popsicle Stick Military Soldier Craft Idea For Kids

As you can guess, today’s wood craft stick soldier puppet idea is inspired by our very own, military family. More importantly – my husband!

You and your child can make soldier puppets {or in our case, airmen for Air Force} with just a few simple supplies and steps. No elaborate skills needed! All you need is some inexpensive jumbo popsicle sticks, a little craft paint, cardstock and pipe cleaner “arms” to make them salute each other.

We hope you like this quick DIY military inspired kids craft tutorial and that you are inspired to recreate your own with your child today! Not only is it perfect to recreate TODAY but think of all the other moments {like Veteran’s Day or Memorial Day} that this craft would come in handy for! Great for a classroom setting as well!

Happy crafting, my friends! Don’t forget to share pictures of your military soldier puppets made from crafts sticks, on our Facebook page to admire! #gluedtomycraftsinspiresyou

Popsicle Stick Soldier Puppet - Military Kid Craft

Craft Supplies:

  • Jumbo Popsicle Sticks
  • Cardstock Paper {we used tan and black}
  • Craft Scissors
  • Pipe Cleaners
  • School Glue
  • Craft Paint
  • Paint Brushes
  • Small Paper Plate
  • Small Wiggle Eyes
  • Black Sharpie Marker
  • optional materials – rhinestones, glitter, glitter glue

Directions:

  • First have children paint one tip of their popsicle stick, a little bit of black for the boots of the soldier.
  • Then paint the remaining popsicle stick a shade of tan or green, for the “body/uniform” of the soldier. Just make sure you leave a little bit of the popsicle stick blank for his neck and head.
  • Once done painting, set aside to let it dry.
  • Next up – grab your colored cardstock and scissors.
  • Cut out a large circle for the head out of some tan cardstock.
  • Go ahead and also cut out a half-circle shaped helmet from some black.
  • Glue those together, as well as the wiggle eyes in place.
  • Finish off with a painted on smile.
  • To finish, glue your “head” cardstock piece to the popsicle stick.
  • Cut out a “belt” from the remaining black cardstock and glue it to the center of the popsicle stick.
  • Then have children wrap/bend a single pipe cleaner a few times around the center of the popsicle sticks to resemble arms. Bend them to “salute.”
  • At this point children can also add other embellishments {like scrapbook stickers, glitter, rhinestones} that they see fit to really make it their own.
  • Then display/play with your wooden soldier puppets proudly for all to see!!
