A HUGE thank you to Agnes from Hello, Wonderful for providing us with the My Color Is Rainbow book and inspiring today’s paper plate rainbow kids craft idea!!

A colorful children’s book titled “My Color is Rainbow” sits on a painted surface next to a playful paper plate rainbow craft, decorated with felt pieces, googly eyes, and bright construction paper legs.

The blogging world is pretty amazing. Although I technically work alone on this little business venture of mine, I am part of a BIG amazing community of bloggers. People who just “get” it, when everyone else around me doesn’t.

Along this creative journey of mine, I have met so many people {online and off} but the ones that stand out the most are the INSPIRATIONAL writers who not only inspire me but push me even farther to achieve my dreams.

One of those people is Agnes from Hello, Wonderful. Just like her blog’s name, she is pretty wonderful and a major inspiration to me!

Recently she published a book titled “My Color Is Rainbow” and it’s a playful story about kindness, acceptance, and openness.

With all the chaos that the world is facing right now, this is a great book to remind us how we are not defined by one, but many wonderful characteristics.

So my dear friends, not only do I want to encourage you to read this bright and playful book to your littles but I also wanted to give you a quick craft inspiration to take the conversation outside the book as well.

With our Paper Plate Rainbow Friend, you and your child can discuss how we are NOT defined by a single shape or color, but we are made from many colors and characteristics!

If you would like to recreate this awesome craft {to ready along with the book} keep scrolling for the full tutorial!

Happy crafting {and reading} my friends! Don’t forget to share pictures with us when you are done by tagging us on Facebook or Instagram! #gluedtomycrafts

A colorful paper plate rainbow with two tan legs, covered in multicolored felt squares and topped with googly eyes, sits on a pastel textured surface next to a bright book cover.

Get creative with your kids and make a colorful rainbow craft! This easy project is perfect for a rainy day.

Craft Supplies:

  • Large Paper Plate – 1 per craft
  • Basic Craft Scissors
  • Hand-Held Office Stapler
  • Thick Felt Glue
  • Colorful Craft Felt
  • Yellow Cardstock Paper
  • Wiggle Eyes

Directions:

  • First cut your paper plate is half.
  • Reserve one half for today’s craft and save the other for a rainy day!
  • Next cut out the center of your paper plate half, so only the rim is left.
  • Now grab your yellow cardstock paper.
  • Cut out TWO boots for your rainbow friend.
  • Staple them to the ends of the paper plate piece. Set aside.
  • Go ahead and grab your craft felt.
  • Have children cut their felt into small squares. Remember – not every piece needs to be the same either! This is where the “we not defined by a single shape or color” fits in!
  • Once you have your felt pieces, have children glue them ALL over the paper plate piece until it’s completely covered. They can make a pattern or just go wild with it.
  • To finish off the “My Color Is Rainbow” kid craft idea – have children glue on the wiggle eyes to the center of the piece, so their new friend can see.
  • Then add other embellishments you see fit before displaying proudly!!!

Don’t let the fun stop here! Be sure to check out our Tissue Paper Rainbow post for another great idea that would go along perfectly with this book!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use.
