A kids’ craft featuring a green handprint frog with googly eyes and a red tongue on a blue paint splat pond, decorated with a pink felt flower. Text reads “Jumping Into Spring!” and “Paint Splat Pond & Handprint Frog.”.

Welcome the new season with a fun and creative project perfect for little hands. This Paint Splat & Handprint Frog on a Lily Pad craft is a wonderful way to celebrate spring. It combines simple painting techniques with the personal touch of a handprint, creating a keepsake you’ll cherish. This activity is ideal for parents, teachers, and anyone looking for an engaging craft for preschoolers and elementary-aged children.

This project is not just about making a cute frog; it’s a multi-sensory experience. Kids get to splat paint, trace their hands, and assemble their own unique pond scene. It helps develop fine motor skills, color recognition, and the ability to follow instructions. Let’s gather our materials and get ready to jump into spring!

Craft Supplies:

Follow these easy steps to create your own adorable handprint frog craft:

  • Lily Pad Printable – password – GLUEDTOMYCRAFTS2026
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Crayons, Coloring Pencils, Markers etc.
  • Paper Scissors
  • Blue Cardstock Paper
  • Red Cardstock Paper
  • Dark Blue Tulip Puffy Paint
  • Light Blue Tulip Puffy Paint
  • School Glue
  • Extra Large Wiggle Eyes – two per craft
  • Embellishments

Directions:

  • First print the free “lily pad” printable listed above.
  • Next go ahead and color in the lily pad design in the printable, however you like.
  • When done coloring it, cut it out {along with the wording} and set both of them aside.
  • Now grab your blue cardstock paper.
  • Fold it in half {either direction works!}
  • Place a few drops of the blue paint on one side of the folded paper, as well as the center along the fold line.
  • Fold the paper again and gently press down, spreading the paint from the center outwards. This is a fun “splat” technique that creates a unique and symmetrical water design.
  • Unfold the paper to reveal your pond. You can add a little glitter to the wet paint for some sparkle. Set it aside to dry completely.
  • While the paint dries, it’s time to create the star of our craft – the frog! Take a piece of green construction paper and lay your hand flat on top.
  • Using a pencil, carefully trace around your hand.
  • Carefully cut out the handprint shape. This will be the body of your green frog.
  • Once the blue paint on your background is dry, it’s time to put everything together. First, glue the lily pad onto the blue water splat. Position it wherever you think it looks best.
  • Next, it’s time for the frog. Turn the green handprint cutout so the fingers are pointing down – these will be the frog’s legs. Add the wiggle eyes and “tongue” shape.
  • To finish the Paint Splat Lily Pad craft – add the “jumping into spring” wording wherever you like on the finished design.
  • When you are done crafting, display it proudly for all to see!
