School Glue, Cinnamon and Applesauce Christmas Ornaments
Today’s Applesauce Christmas Ornaments kid craft tutorial is a holiday tradition that everyone has made or received at least ONCE in their life!!!
I personally love the smell of these and have to say, they are my favorite Christmas craft to do this time of year. I remember making some of these back in kindergarten (over 20 years ago) and my mom still has them to this day. Every year when we pulled them out of their boxes, they still smelt amazing. These DIY ornaments are definitely keepers for years to come!
Craft Supplies:
- 1/2 cup Unsweetened Applesauce
- 1/2 cup Ground Cinnamon
- 2 tbsp School Glue
- Festive Colored Glitter
- Cookie Cutters
- Decorative Baker’s Twine
- Craft Scissors
- White Puffy Paint
Directions:
- Add your applesauce, cinnamon and glue in a large bowl.
- Mix well until all ingredients start sticking together and form into a ball. If mixture is too runny, add more cinnamon {if you like – add a few teaspoons of glitter at this point too!}
- Once your dough has formed into a ball, place it on a sheet of wax paper.
- Slightly press dough down.
- Lay a second sheet on top. Then flatten dough with a rolling pin. (Trust me, this is a must! Easier to clean up and roll out)
- Roll out dough till it’s 1/4 1/2 inch thick.
- Remove wax paper and cut out your shapes using cookie cutters. You can also free-style them if you like.
- Once you have the shapes you want, carefully remove them from the wax paper and place on a cookie sheet.
- Be sure to make a hole for your string to go through.
- Heat oven to 150 degrees and bake your ornaments for 2 hours.
- Turn off oven and let them sit for 5-6 hours or overnight, to allow them to dry.
- Once hardened, remove from cookie sheet and add your string/ribbon to hang.
- Enjoy! {BTW – I added white puffy paint to each ornament to create “icing” on our finished cookies!}
