Coffee Filter Watermelon – Kid Craft Idea For Summer
Turn ordinary coffee filters into awesome pretend play watermelon slices with today’s simple art project tutorial! Just in time for summer break!
Not only is our Coffee Filter Watermelon Kid Craft idea PERFECT for every day craft time BUT it also goes along PERFECTLY with the book The Watermelon Seed by Greg Pizzoli {affiliate link}
With perfect comic pacing, Greg Pizzoli introduces us to one funny crocodile who has one big fear: swallowing a watermelon seed. What will he do when his greatest fear is realized? Will vines sprout out his ears? Will his skin turn pink? This crocodile has a wild imagination that kids will love.
With bold color and beautiful sense of design, Greg Pizzoli’s picture book debut takes this familiar childhood worry and gives us a true gem in the vein of I Want My Hat Backand Not a Box.
I sure hope you take the time to recreate our craft with your child, as well as grabbing the mentioned book above to read along in celebration. Who knows – you might even find yourself munching on some yummy watermelon afterwards.
Happy crafting my friends! Don’t forget to share pictures of your finished watermelon slices made from coffee filters, on our Facebook page or tag us on Instagram to admire them! #gluedtomycrafts

Directions:
* First things first – grab ONE coffee filter.
* Flatten it out with your hands.
* Now fold it in half like a taco and secure it with ONE staple towards the top, so it doesn’t come apart.
* Next grab your craft paint and paint the outer rim green and the inside of the coffee filter completely pink.
* Now either dip your index finger in some black paint to create “seeds” on the watermelon slice or just draw them on with a small paint brush.
* When done painting, set aside the coffee filter to let it dry completely.
* And that’s it! When you are ready, display your Coffee Filter Watermelon Slices for all to see! You can use a small piece of tape on the back of each painted filter, to display it on a window or on the wall!
